Need some help. I did the math and for a cruise on the Dream in August we are looking at a visit to Atlantis, it would be me, my wife, and son aged 16. Cost breakdown is as follows:

Disney shore excursion $546.00
Atlantis Day Pass $360.33
Comfort suites 1 day $374.22

The difference between the Atlantis day pass and Disney is $185.77. My question is if you add in the cost of taxi and food to the day pass would you be approaching the break even point?

Also the Disney excursion says lunch is included at the kiosks around the waterpark. Is that a one trip to the kiosk and done, or is food included throughout the day?

I would think that between food and transportation costs, you would break even by going with Disney. If I remember correctly, it is one meal at the food stops on the resort. Not bad size portions and a fairly good choice of food. This was a couple of years ago though, but we really enjoyed it.

We booked thru Disney while on the Dream last May. It included lunch & you could purchase it at the little stands (not in a sit-down restaurant or anything). You had a choice of 1 of 3 or 4 items. I got a grilled chicken Caesar wrap that some said was dry, but I thought it was pretty good. Another choice was a large hot dog and I can't remember what the other ones were.
* bring a zip lock bag on this excursion! They give you paper lunch tickets, and ours got wet, which the ladies at the lunch stand did not appreciate. They have to turn them in at the end of the day. *
We had a great time at Atlantis! The lagoon is relaxing and great with no waves (ocean was rough that day). We brought our own snorkel gear & you can use required Atlantis life vest for free. The kids had a blast!

You can easily eat lunch for less than $15 per person, and a shared van taxi would be $4 per person (plus tip) to get to Atlantis from the port.

The upcharge from Disney is just that- an upcharge.

The risk you run doing it on your own is a) if the ship skips Nassau for some reason, you'd be out the money you spent for the comfort suites, or b) Atlantis day passes are sold-out (some days Atlantis doesn't sell *any* day passes because it's hotels are full and so-many cruise excursions have already been sold).

Of course, Disney also will hold the ship for its own excursions, but Atlantis really isn't that far away from the port, so I think that's a minor risk.

We booked a room at Comfort Suites and walked over to Atlantis last Tuesday 5/10. It cost 374, which we used credit card points to book. At check in, they charged us 22 for each adult as a housekeeping fee and told us we can come back at 3 for a room key to utilize the room. For us, it was one of our most memorable days of the trip. We booked it last minute with the incentive we would not have to pay out of pocket and. Can't wait to visit again.

We took a taxi from the port and a taxi back to the port, it was 20 each way for the 5 of us. Takes about 15 minutes each way.

follow up on a trip we just took. We went with day passes direct thru Atlantis (not the authorized travel company) May is slow and I waited till the day before so they dropped the prices from 121 to 99 including all taxes. Taxi was $4p/p and easy. The only issue was be sure to bring your voucher, just a reservation number is not good enough, I had to use their computer to log on to my email account to print it. The other thing was no one seemed to know where you check in. Its at the Coral tower at the first stair by the entry. Atlantis is pretty amazing, we had no lines on the slides at all

Minor. possible off-topic, if you buy the day pass do you have access to the see the aquariums and other things there?

We did not need to show our wristbands until we went to the water area. I know you can go to the casino without a day pass because we walked thru it, not sure about the aquarium, you might be able to go by there for free

Yes.

Aquarium is *NOT* free. You either went during a moment when there were no security guards (unusual, but it happens) or you passed a checkpoint without noticing and the guard saw your pass/wristbands and didn't bother you.
