I was just curious if anyone has been to the Atlantic Dance hall at the BW. I've been by it, but I'm not sure what kind of crowd is in there. Is it for people of all ages, or is it more geared towards teens?

Atlantic Dance Hall has minimum age of 21. I suspect teenagers with phony id's wouldn't like the type of music that's played there.

Actually DS would LOVE the kind of music played there. He's a jazz major, especially loves latin jazz. Problem? He's only 20! Has anyone had experience getting in there just to hear the music (he'd even let me go to "chaperone")?

Hi,
My husband and I really enjoy an evening at Atlantic Dance Hall. Lately there has been a fantastic band there, "The Drive". When it is the guy musicians they play rock music, The Stones, ZZ Top etc.. When the very talented female vocalists joins them it is more dance music. They played some Latin music too! They are really good and very versatile.
We used to go watch the swing dancers there when that was the theme, the bands were always fantastic then too. Then it was the Latin theme. From what I hear and tend to believe, the Dance Hall struggles because it hasn't found it's niche yet. Many people stopped going there when it was Swing because they were intimidated and didn't feel comfortable dancing with all the "expert" swing dancers. It really was like watching a production, you would not want to get out there and just "do your own thing". The same thing may have happened with the Latin theme.
Last week there were many more people there than we have seen there recently. That was great. But, there were some Latin people who were obviously there for a night of Latin music, which maybe they don't even have anymore. They were disappointed and did not stay long. That's just not good business, it seems like there is some problem with management and marketing of the dance hall.
I would say that its mostly 30 - 50 year olds that go there, many dance and some just watch and listen to the band (like us). It is a beautiful place and it bugs me that it's not all that it could be.
Well, I can go on, can't I?

Go to the Dance Hall and write to tell us what you think! We'll be there soon ourselves!
Have fun!

P.S. to Simba's Mom
I don't know how it ALWAYS is but we have most certainly seen kids younger than 21 in there with their parents. Many times actually.
