Hi Everyone! I have stayed in Atlantic City before, only at the Hilton (on the boardwalk) I am planning my 30th birthday and am planning on going to the Hilton, because the rates are absolutely unbelievable compared to all the other hotels.
However, I am seeing a lot of mixed reviews saying how outdated and everything it is now. Has any one been there lately? I can't imagine they would let it go downhill because it is in a prime area, but was just wondering if anyone had been there recently??
I would love to stay at the Borgata or somewhere, but just can't afford the rates.

thanks for any help or information!

We stayed at the Hilton on 12/11 for one night so we could go to The Boardwalk Hall, we saw The Caesar's Salute to American Figure Skating.
The hotel was fine, we are not gamblers so we did not have any comps, so we paid cash for the room and food. It was nice to be on the boardwalk. We are older 60+ so we took the jitney to BWH.
Hilton does put a $100 hold on your cc for cleaning, but they do not charge your card. The Hilton was clean and OK for us.

Thank you!! I don't gamble but my friend does. So I figure while he is gambling I will do a little shopping:thumbsup2
We don't have comps either, and most of the rooms in AC on weekends are ridiculously expensive and we cannot afford them. I did notice that they hold a $100 on your cc. How long is the hold on there for?

I just wanted to make sure everything was clean. How were the beds?

The hold was for 24 hours. The beds were fine. We chose two doubles.
For shopping walk down to the pier at Caesars. If the weather is nice, walk thru Caesars to the street. There is a Disney Store in that complex of stores.

What month are you planning on going? Rates seem to be down now. I actually got comps for Friday nights for next month and I haven't been to AC is almost a year.

I have never stayed in the Hilton.. I usually stay in Ballys and Showboat. I prefer to stay in the middle at Ballys. I never tend to walk down towards the Hilton.

Check out travelzoo.com for promos. Atlantic city comes up every now and than. Also I believe the tropicana comes up on priceline.

Here is a current travelzoo one http://www.travelzoo.com/latest-hot-picks/945137/

Of course not friday or sat.. anyway you can go sun to mon or thursday to friday?

Make sure you sign up for the comp cards even you are not gambling that much.

Right now Harrahs owns so many of the casinos and the cards are linked.

I actually used to work for the company a few years ago than owned the Hilton and Ballys but things have been all switched around now.

Due to our work schedules we are only able to go on a weekend. Not going until March, and have looked at all the sites but the cheapest found is the Hilton. I'm thinking its because they don't have any entertainment scheduled for that weekend so far. I think I should book it to lock in that rate just in case!

what is the cancelation policy? you book it to lock in, and then shop around on orbitz, expedia, etc until the date you need to cancel. i have done this in the past and it worked out well. we booked off the boardwalk and were able to get a hotel on the boardwalk 3 weeks before on orbitz for the same price.

i love the pier at ceasars, so nice to just walk and hang. i also like the restaurants there. on a weekend it might be tougher to find but many places have happy hour, we also always bring snacks and cocktails for the room to save some $ (since you may gamble or shop it away!). have your friend use a card and check for comps before you leave. i have gambled very little and gotten a parking voucher or something else small.

Will your friends name also be on the room? If so, don't forget to visit the VIP Host before you check out to see if they will comp the rooms and/or meals before you go (as you said they gamble). You will probably get a lot of bounceback offers for free rooms, dining, etc.

Have fun and happy (early birthday!!!). I'm jealous - I love AC - I've only stayed at Trump Plaza though, so I can't help with the Hilton.

Atlantic City is lots of fun! I have stayed practically everywhere there...from the Hilton on one end, all the way down to the Showboat at the other end. We go 4-6 times a year.

I have to tell you, Hilton was my least favorite. I have eaten at 3 restaurants there and the food wasn't good at all. If you're celebrating your 30th birthday, you won't be surrounded by anyone in your age group. It's DEFINITELY a more mature crowd.

How are the rates at Bally's? Tropicana? Caesar's? Is it much different than the Hilton?

The Borgata is THE place to be in AC, especially for thirty and forty something year olds. However, it's usually MUCH more expensive than the resorts on the Boardwalk.

Good luck with your decision! Happy Planning!

We stay at a little hotel right near the Hilton called The Chelsea. Love it. Great beds, nice rooms. Sometimes they have special packages. The weekends are always a little more money so it might be out of your price range.

The prices are a lot higher at the others. It would be about $300-$400 more:scared1: I would love, love, love to stay at the Borgata, but then you have to drive to get to the boardwalk to the shops at the pier, right? I hate driving when I'm on "vacation" so that is why I was thinking it would be easier to stay on the boardwalk. I am definately going to keep my eye out for better rates though.

Thank you everyone for your input!!

Check out Tropicana....we stayed there on 12/25 as a comped room and I have not been to that casino in over a year. Calling the hotel can be more beneficial than the web as well. I got a comp code in the mail and it was not for the weekend....I called them up and got comped a Fri and Sat night for next week! They have a mall there too as well as nightclubs, comedy shows and tons of restaurants/bars!

I like Trump Plaza. I signed up for their emails a long while ago and I was getting some really good deals in the $90-100 range. Their rooms are nice, and I really like their beds. I actually suggested an AC trip to DH last night! I like the Trump Plaza location, too. Easy on/off the AC Expressway, and right near the Caesar's shopping pier (I forget the name). That's my vote! :)
