We would like to stop and spent the night on our way to Orlando this trip. The half way point of our trip is somewhere between Atlanta and Macon. We won't even be checking in til after 10pm so we just need a nice, safe, clean, cheap place to crash. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)

You may want to look in Forsyth, GA. It's in between the two, about 30 minutes before macon. There are a lot of options for eating there too.

There's not a whole lot in between Atlanta and Macon except for Forsyth. I'm not sure how nice and clean the hotels there are, though!

You might try Locust Grove or McDonough (Eagles Landing/Hudson Bridge exit). That's a southern suburb of Atlanta and a bit nicer.

Stay far, far away from the Knights Inn in Macon. It's been a few years but that place was seriously nasty!!

On our trip last April we stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Macon. Everything was great.

We just stayed in Macon I-75 exit 169 at a Fairfield Inn. It was very nice and we paid $79 plus tax. It had sausage bisc/ and waffles along with rest usual breakfast items.

The Fairfield is a good choice. Just make sure you are well away from Atlanta.

I opted to head down the east coast (and stop and have lunch w/my dad who'll be vacationing in Ormond Beach at the same time). Staying in Savannah. :)

Had looked originally at Macon or that place just south (two-word name?). Might want to check out Priceline.com for cheaper prices if you don't mind in which chain you stay. Check out biddingfortravel.com for some more info on what hotels are available via Priceline as well as reviews (so you can better prepare for bypassing the stinkers!)

We stayed in Macon a few weeks ago!
We stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.
It was about $100 for the night and had an average
cont. breakfast.

Previously we had stayed in Manchester, Tenn
and found it to be a nice town with several
options for places to stay and dine!

The Motel 6 in Lithia Springs was very clean and affordable when we stayed there. It's off I-20 at exit #44 at about $58 a night.

We stayed at a Holiday Inn in McDonough, GA. It was very nice. We were about 5 hours from Disney from that point. It was a nice drive into Fla from there.

We always stay at the Hampton Inn in Forysth- A great place its about $80, a free breakfast. Rooms are clean. Its about a 6 hour drive to Disney from there. They know us there now!

Now, now - Atlanta isn't that bad. I actually live 25 miles south in McDonough. ;) Drop in and spend the night here.

McDonough is actually a nice little city. You can do McDonough or Stockbridge area. They are both really close to each other. We just moved here about 10 months ago and stayed at the LaQuinta Inn in Stockbridge for about a week upon arrival. It was really nice. I am not sure what your price range is though. Anything right off 1-75 in McDonough should be pretty nice. It is all fairly new, so hasn't had a ton of wear. It is really convenient too - right off of 75.

Morrow, stockbridge or mcdonough are all good choices with new hotels, 20-25 miles south of atlanta. Sleep inn morrow, LaQuinta inn in stockbridge, Best western in McDonough are fine.

Definitely get past Atlanta. Macon is a pretty big city so it shouldn't be to hard to find a lot of hotels. Then Warner-Robbins is just past Macon. Sounds like your going S on 75. The GA Welcome Center will be probably be closed by the time you get to it, but stop by McDonalds or some place like that and pick up the 2 travel coupon books they all have. You'll find lots of coupons for hotels. If you make it to Macon and don't want to stop for about another hour, Tifton is a nice town to stay in. Lots and lots of hotels. We like to stay at one of the Ramada Limited's but I'm not sure what exit it is. It's right in front of the exit when you get off the interstate. They have a free breakfast and there's always a coupon in those coupon books. Then you've only got about 4 more hours till you're at WDW.

Just about any of the chain hotels along I-75 in McDonough or Forsythe are good bets. I would recommend picking one and making a reservation...if your plans change you can always cancel before 4 a.m.

And I agree with the above post...check the road conditions in and around Atlanta as they've been rebuilding the roads there roughly since Sherman left town.

There are three certainties in life...

1. Death
2. Taxes
3. Road Construction in Atlanta

Wow! Thanks, everyone! I thought I might get a couple of hits on this question but you guys are great. Lots of great suggestions...that should keep me busy checking hotel sites for a couple of days. NightOwlKY thanks for the Georgia DOT link. Looks like there's major widening of I-75 in Turner, Tift, Cook, and Lowndes counties. Is Atlanta in Cook county? I'm trying to get a visual. Thanks again for sharing your ideas! :)

No, Atlanta is not in Cook County. Those counties on the map at the link above are all in South Georgia if I read the site correctly. I believe Lowndes County is right on the Florida state line, so all that construction is well South of Atlanta.
