Atlanta airport

Has anyone ever flown into Atlanta from Gatwick then onto Orlando? We are doing this in Dec and would like to know how big the airport is? do you get through immigration quickly? and are we likely to get delayed due to bad weather because of the time of year?

Atlanta is a great big airport - flew there last year with delta. Immigration control same as elsewhere in US it seems - takes time!!

Done it twice before. Atlanta airport is HUGE - it was massively expanded for the Olympics in 1996 remember - but it's still fairly easy to navigate.

All the international flights arrive in their own terminal which has a very large customs and immigration hall - you should have no problem getting through this quickly. Would be surprised if you have to wait longer than 20 minutes.

Once you've claimed your bags, you put them on the relevant conveyor belt for your airline (I'm guessing Delta) and they will redirect it to your second flight. You then get on the underground train which runs between the international terminal and all the domestic terminals - there's one train every two minutes (if that).

Just keep an eye on the departures screens to see what terminal and gate your flight is departing from - the rest is easy.

Been with Delta twice via Atlanta, first time immigration was a pig, but not there fault our flight was two hours late and we were panicking to make the connection, they [Delta] delayed the connecting flight, we were lucky got on the plane and they closed the doors behind us. Bags were first on the belt at MCO, god knows how!!

Second time immigration was 15 minutes and we had two hours at Atlanta, great airport, just love Delta, less Brits on flight makes immigration easier lol
