My family has not flown with our DD's. We are flying out Christmas evening and our layover is only 40 minutes in Atlanta. I've tried everywhere (AirTran, Hartsfield-Jackson, etc) to try and plan our route through the airport. I really don't want to miss our flight to Orlando. We are already not getting in until after 10:30 pm. I can not find information on how to do this. Other than that AirTran is in the North Terminal. That is it. So, I guess my question is how do I find out what gates are AirTran and which ones will I be using? Any and all help is appreciated.

First off, terminal North is where Airtran's ticket counter is. The gate areas are labeled T, A, B, C, D, and E.

Airtran flies into and out of C and D. Best thing to do is go to airtran.com and check some flights to see where Airtran flies into and out of. You may have to go from C to D or D to C, but that is it.

NOW, here is how you get from one terminal to another. If you land at one and have to go to another you head for the middle of the terminal and go downstairs to the train. It runs every 3-5 minutes. Take the train to the next terminal and back up to gate level. You find you next gate and board.

40 minutes is going to be tight. I have a 47 minute connection in Atlanta in March.

Here is Atlanta's terminal layout. http://www.atlanta-airport.com/docs/terminal/Hartsfield-Jackson Map2009.pdf

In General I've found that the Atlanta Airport is actually pretty easy to get around and figure out where your gate is going to be. The terminals are all numbered the same direction, and run from gate 1 on one side all the way to gate 40? on the other side. They are numbered like A22 or C19 which indicate the Terminal building and the Gate number.

The central underground corridor (Either by Train or walkway/moving sidewalk) connects to the center of each terminal building, so when you exit your plane, head towards the center of the terminal and you'll see the signs indicating which escalator to take to head towards the terminal you need. (Left or right).

The other REALLY nice thing is that once you are inside the terminals, you don't need to exit the "secured area" to transfer from one area to another. That can come in really handy when you are making a connecting flight as some airports are set up with each set of gates having their own security line, meaning you'd have to exit your "secured area" an pass back thru security to make your connection....which obviously could greatly increase the time needed.

Using the above posters layout map and info go to Airtran.com and Click on flight status for your flight on other days. Enter your info and keep checking every few days. You will get an idea of where departure gate from Atlanta will be. You will end up with a few alternative. It does change sometimes. Gives you an idea of what to expect. It's not perfect but will help.

I tracked our flight for a few weeks before and while it was using 2 different gates. One in the concourse I was landing and one in another concourse. We ended up with the on in the other concourse, but I new exactly where we needed to go. It was easy.

My strategy exactly.
