Atkins question

Just a quick question. Why can you not use Atkins products during induction, as long as you stay under the 20 Carb grams allowed? For example the no carb dressings, no carb baking mixes, etc.

According to the official Atkins web site - www.atkins.com - you CAN! If you look at the menus for induction they include a muffin made with the bake mix, and on the FAQ it said that you CAN use the bars in moderation (the website explains what moderation is ). Go to the website and type Induction into the search and you will get lots of information about it.

There DOES seem to be some discrepancy between what is published on the web site and what the books say. I have not read the books but have followed the web site.

You can do whatever you want, sticking to the carb limit.

HOWEVER... induction is a period of switching your body from using glucose for fuel to burning stored fat for fuel. It's also a time to get yourself rid of cravings for sweets, carbs, starches...

The most efficient way to do both of these, is to stick to a very strict induction period for 2 weeks. In that time, your body efficiently switches between the two fuel sources, and your blood sugar levels even out.

The best way to do it, is to stick to WHOLE foods. Fresh meats, veggies, eggs & dairy. They're better for you than "fake" foods with additives and preservatives at any time, but especially while your body is adjusting to it's new functions.
 
I was wondering about that myself because the menu list on the atkins website doesn't fully mesh with the rules for induction list of acceptable foods which says to eat ONLY these things.........and that's what i did my first week because I didn't have the internet until a few days ago to hear that I could do different.......I did start to add a few things back into my diet but I was losing more I think with the stricter diet (which I will start again today).......I weigh myself everyday which some people don't think is good but I saw on a nbc special certain things that people who have been successful in weight loss all do and the two things I remember are: they weighed themselves constantly to monitor what things changed their weight (good or bad), and the recorded everything they ate and drank. I do both of these religiously now. I think especially right now when I am trying to figure out what foods will work for me on Atkins that weighing myself everyday has helped to different new foods that might be slowing me down.

Thanks for all the responses! I just figured that if you can use these products after induction, which raises your carb count, It
just looks like you could use them during induction if your staying
under 20 carbs. Also the book I have says you can use jello sweetened with Splenda, and Sodas with Splenda during induction. As far as cravings go... I have tried this using Whole foods, and failed because I am a bread, and dessert girl, I think that by having a few more choices, I would be able to stick with this WOE, and not cheat.
