I have been on the atkins diet for a while and have lost 35 lbs., a couple of weks ago I went to the movies and thought since I did so well I would cheat this 1 time and have nachos with cheese(my very favorite movie snack) after about 10 nachos my stomach felt a little sick, so I gave them to my dd, the rest of the day and night I felt so sick I could not eat all day. Is this because I ws not us to eating that much carbs or was it my imagnation. Has this happen to anyone else?? I am going to disney in August and even though I should have lost enough by then I am afraid to cheat there.

Yes, this happens. Your body is not used to those yucky carbs, so it will rebel when you eat them. If you eat a lot of them (probably more than just 10 nachos) you may also experience a "carb hangover" where you'll feel sluggish and headachey for awhile too.

Aren't you happy you've rid your body of those icky carbs? See what they do to you? :)

This happened to me a few weeks ago. We took DS to the Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom for his 2nd birthday. I thought it wouldn't hurt to eat some garlic mashed potatoes and cinnamon rice....but I over did it with 2 helping of each. I barely made it back to the car because I felt so sick. Then it went downhill from there and I went on a carb binge......today is my first day back with no carbs.

Although I can eat a tiny bite or two of bread (my cheat at a restaurant! - not gonna do it for a while, though), if I eat more I get bloated and uncomfortable, and lose some of the wonderful new energy I have. It has to be really worth it to eat lots of carbs now!

Michael ate part of a chocolate chip cookie cake at a friend's birthday party a few weeks ago. The next day he felt horrible and to make a long story short, was very close to the toilet later on that night. It was almost as if his body couldn't accept it! He told me that he tasted it come back up and it taught him NOT to let it go back down again!

I've heard of this happening. The thing with those nachos is that was most likely some white flour included with the cornmeal in the chips and the cheese isn't just cheese, it likely had a little sugar too. Add those nasty refined carbohydrates with a sudden overdose of carbohydrates and you got sick.

Hope you are feeling better now. {{{HUGS}}}

Thanks everyone I thought I was the only one, because I never heard of this, I guess a low carb diet is a life long thing, I am o.k. with it now (after 5 months) but I thought after the last 15 lbs. I could have a slice of pizza or a bowl of pasta once in a while, but I don't think it is worth feeling sick, I guess I will just have to eat more veg, and fruit. I don't know if Disney will be the same without my mickey ice cream and pasta at Portobello's, well I guess we do what we have to do.

Thanks again for your input.

Now you know why people say you have to go low-carb for LIFE.

Your body creates enzymes to digest food. There are different enzymes needed to break down protein and carbs. If you've been eating strict low-carb, your body gets smart and quits making the enzymes needed to digest the carbs. Then when you EAT too many carbs, you feel icky because your body can't digest them well anymore! That's the way I've heard it explained.

Gives me more incentive to eat the low-carb foods that make me feel great and have lots of energy! :sunny:

Portabello's must offer Chicken Marsala, or something similar. That way, you can still enjoy the wonderful Italian food, just skip the pasta! Get it with a side of veggies or an Italian salad! Yummy! :)
