My DH and I are both on the Atkins diet and doing well. Great right? Well I am worried that our Feb. trip may derail our progress. Anyone survived a Disney while Atkins dieting trip and still ate? Any ideas on restaurants or food choices are welcomed. I know there are salads many places..anyone have a particularily good one to recommend? I am not a huge beef eater so that limits some possibilities for me...DH is though.

You might want to check out the W.I.S.H. Board. This question was recently asked there and there were several responses. Sorry, I'm not computer savvy enough to give you a direct link. Is anyone else?

Try Ahona's for a great atkins meal. Lots of grilled meats (steak, shrimp, turkey & pork) and the salad is good too. Bet those wings have lots of carbs, but they were pretty terrific too. HD and I have just started the atkins and so far so good. Good luck!!!

Listen, I haven't been to Disney since I started Atkins, but I look at it this way:

Eating at Disney is just like eating out anywhere else. I can go to Ruby Tuesdays and have that the Sampler Platter which has cheese fries, cheese sticks, and chicken tenders on it and then have a bacon cheeseburger with the bread AND french fries!! For dessert I can then have the strawberry shortcake....okay....enough said.
However, when I eat at Ruby's (I work there) I chose to eat the salad bar, quite often as a matter of fact. Or if that "bores" me, I'll have the low carb chicken quesadilla. Or if I really want to be adventurous, I'll have the top 10 sirlon with broccoli and cream caulifleur.
I know a lot about visiting Disney is eating and you can do that, if you just monitor what you're eating. Do I still eat man-made carbs, sure I do, but I do it in moderation, because I've come too far. If you want those french fries, then eat them....but share with your DH. Yes they are still high in carbs, but you've done yourself a favor by at least sharing them. As far as desserts go, I know two places off the top of my head that have a sugar free one, Cosmic Rays at the MK in Tomorrowland and Norway's bakery in the World Showcases. I think Hollywood Brown Derby still has their sugar free apple strudel I believe it was. Still high in carbs, but you've eliminated the sugar at least.
You'll do just fine, just don't think about it so much. Remember, you'll be doing a lot of walking and that should help quite a bit. If you forget and get off track while on vacation, then get it back together when you return home. Over the holidays, Thanksgiving especially, I gained 2 pounds and it took FOREVER to come off, but it finally did by the end of December along with 2 more pounds making it 4 total!! :cool1: :cool1:
So enjoy your vacation and HAVE FUN!! You're going to be at ::MickeyMo house....so how can you possibly go wrong with that?? :p

My husband and I were both on the Atkins diet last month when we went to Disney. Here's what we did. We ate breakfast everyday, which is easy -- eggs, omelet, ham, bacon.... We kept our beverages no-carb at all times -- water, diet drinks. We had a meat or seafood dinner. But we did NOT deprive ourselves of a snack each day. I enjoyed a cinnamon bun or cookie every day, I think. Anyway, neither of us gained an ounce. We didn't lose weight, of course, but by cheating "in moderation," we at least didn't gain anything. Good luck and enjoy Disney.

My dh and I are on Atkins and still enjoy eating at Disney.

For breakfast we either bring along a cooler of Atkins shakes or we hit a breakfast buffet. We load up on omlets, bacon and sausage, and avoid the donut area (my weakness). I love the breakfast pizza at the Trail's End at Fort Wilderness, so I eat the topping and leave the crust.

For lunch we'll grab a Chicken Caesar Salad, which you can get just about anywhere. My favorite is at Planet Hollywood.

For dinner it's either steak or seafood. We ask the server to hold the bread and substitue the starch with a vegetable.

For dessert, the Boardwalk Bakery has a delicious sugar free cheesecake. Also, the ice cream shop at the Magic Kingdom has 2 flavors of sugar free ice cream, butter pecan and vanilla chocolate swirl.

By the way, I've lost 30 lbs. and my DH has lost 50. We have annual passes and are VERY frequent visitors at Disney.

There's something on low carb dieting at WDW on Deb's site. www.allears.net. By the way, I just returned from 2 days at WDW followed by a 7 day Disney cruise and I admit I threw all the Atkins ideas out the window and came back 6 pounds heavier. but, I lost 4 of those pounds within the first week and the last 2 the next week. And I do not feel guilty one bit because the food on the cruise was wonderful!

Thanks for the all the advice and suggestions. I am really looking forward to the trip and glad to know there are places that offer sugar free ice cream. We can still have our family ice cream stop and drops for an afternoon break! Thanks for the encouragement!
