I posted over a month ago about appearing to have athletes foot between my toes....well I've putting on three different creams, as well as foot spray and its still there...

It is now cracking, and appears to have bleed. Is this because its too dried out? I've been wearing flip flops and washing them, as well as changing my socks a ton.

Stupid toes costing so much money!

Sounds like it's time to see a dermatologist. You may have dermatitis, allergy, eczema, psoriasis or other skin problems. You've given it the good ol' college try. Now it's time to call in the big guns

I'm sorry, this post made me gag. Some discussions are best had just between you and a medical professional.

Its really not that gross....it just appears to be very very dry skin between two toes! That is extra dry.

I'll have to find a foot doctor, and hopefully this won't get any worse before I can get in!

While waiting to get into the doctor, try Aquaphor. You can find it in the baby cream aisle. Aquaphor healing ointment is fantastic stuff.

Soak your feet in hot water with epsom salt, lightly exfoliate the area and then apply gold bond medicated foot powder. IMHO, the creams make it worse for me.

This is TMI, but the are a lot of sources that suggest peeing on your feet in the shower will help cure and then prevent the development of athlete's foot.

Ewwwwww! Gross, and doesn't work either.

Gym Myth Debunked: Does Peeing in the Shower Cure Athlete's Foot?!

We spoke to Dr. Tomas L. Griebling, Vice-Chair of Urology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, about the so-called cure-all and he advises to not buy into the hype. Griebling says one of the reasons people might consider urine to be useful in combating athlete's foot is because the compound urea is sometimes used as an emollient in  anti-fungal topical creams and has been shown to break down the fungus in some studies. The problem with this reasoning is that to get any sort of benefit from urea, you would need a much higher concentration than found in urine. The compound would also need to be in contact with the infected area for a longer period of time - longer than an average urination.

On another board, someone mentioned that they had great luck using Listerine on their feet -- the plain kind, not any fancy tooth-whitening kind. I think the walmart version has the same active ingredients. He said he put his feet in a small basin every morning and poured a little Listerine over them and let it sit for a few minutes. Said it cleared up his athlete's foot quickly. Might be worth a try.

I would probably go to a dermatologist instead of a podiatrist. It's a skin issue, IMO.

I had athlete's foot and my dermatologist put me on oral Lotrimen for 6 months. It worked great and the AF never came back.

Check out healthboards.com. It's a forum for medical issues. You may have better luck there since its where a lot of people go for medical advice.

you should see a doctor and I don't think it is that gross.
i like to apply rubbing alcohol to my feet after bathing and drying. keeps them nice and fungus free. i bet the PP 's tip about listerine would work. i love that stuff!

I'm having the exact same problem and it's been going on for 11 months! And I DID see a doctor and they told me to keep using the OTC cream. :confused3 I feel stupid going again so I just keep using it. Some days it's worse than others, but seems to have almost NO correlation to the frequency/volume of the cream.

I had some mild improvement from putting Neosporin on the cracked parts, and it got generally better when I was able to switch to summer shoes (which was about a week ago, with the way Minnesota's winter was going).

That's what I fear, paying the money and being told to use the OTC stuff. It hasn't spread really, just gotten more dry. My mom suggested trying stuff for dry skin? I'll even spray down all my flip flops after each wear.

Just my opinion... But I had it two years ago and it was pretty bad. It started as itchy, then burning and so painful I had a limp. I tried the creams, the sprays, peeing on it, even was soaking it in tea. It would get better for a day or two and then get back worse worse. So I went to the doctor...just a regular doctor. I was given a prescription to to take for two weeks. It did the same thing got better at first then got worse. Then. I was given a different prescription for 4 weeks... And they told me to use the powder. It didn't get worse but it didn't get better either. It was one of the most annoying experiences ever. All the shoes I wore during that time I threw away. I refused to wear them again after getting rid of it. It went away after a trip to the beach. I honestly think the salt water did it. I would try soaking it in Epsom salt, avoid dark socks, try the powder, and always dry you feet well after they are wet. Believe me I know it's annoying...

Have you tried plain old Vaseline? If the main issue is dry, cracked skin then Vaseline can perform miracles! I'm assuming you've already tried Lotrimin and similar products to fight fungus. Another suggestion is products meant for diaper rash. Believe it or not, the rash is very similar to a multitude of common skin issues.
