atheists: most distrusted minority in US

Hmmm...now that sounds almost not very nice. I'll teach you about confession tomorrow. Because you aren't supposed to hurt people when you are a good Christian.

But I know, deep down, you love me! (With the love of the Lord!, like all us good Christians.)

Sleep well, brother Sylvester!

Thank you, thank you. I took a self-professed heathen and prayed and prayed for his soul, each and every night. All I was trying to do was save his soul, and look what happened!

I now have a quote from Sylvester that I will treasure always.

I accept this award humbly, in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus.

Amen.

I think you should post this as a whole new thread for the whole DIS to see. :teeth: :rotfl2:

Yeah, put me in this camp too.

Not sure I have an opinion about the survey because I can't guess what the think was of the people that answered "yes". I don't at all mistrust atheists or the non-religions. I do, however, very much distrust the anti-religious in much the same way I would mistrust a racist. I wonder whether people confused the two when questioned. If I assume that a atheist is openly hostile to my religion and my religion is an integral part of me then it follows that I assume they are hostile toward me. If they draw that conclusion it would follow that they wouldn't trust atheists. Just a thought.

Then "most people" are quite ignorant, aren't they!? Good thing for Christians that "most people" don't judge them on the actions of just one person who shares their beliefs.

I'm not sure that latter is true though.

I doesn't appear to be a intolerant statement, judging from the posts, to through the term "bible thumper" around, but if someone threw the term "godless heathen" around in a non-sarcastic way they would be laughed off the thread.

It seems that when a person opens a conversation with,"I am a christian" I can't seem to trust them. And have you noticed that people who have the fish on the back of their car are the worst drivers on the road? And no one is really an atheist, they just haven't found the right road to follow as of yet. But they will. :goodvibes

label me agnostic or atheist, I don't really care. I'm of the mindset that 'I don't know and you don't know either' when it comes to a god. the people I don't trust are the ones who insist there isn't a doubt in their heart that when they die they're going to heaven. it's very egocentric, self-righteous, and delusional thinking.

Oh Here Here! I agree with this 100%! :cheer2:

I couldn't disagree more. I felt lost for years, trying to have faith and believe. Even as a child, I went through the motions, hoping to just finally get it. It wasn't until I finally went through a lot of soul searching and came to the conclusion that I just DON'T believe and that's just the way it is, before I finally found some peace within myself.

I AM on the right road and for the first time in my life, I'm very settled on it.

What hymns are you singing in that boat on Sunday?? ;)

Apparantly none:

No wonder atheists (which Sylvester is NOT, he's agnostic) are the most mistrusted group! First, you are a non-believer, then you sing the praises of your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ...now you are all blasphemous again. WTH?!

He has renounced the Lord. All I did was go to sleep, for Pete's sake.

...Nothing gold can stay. :(

Well, you won't be able to push me off your boat, because I'll be in my egocentric and delusional heaven, thank you very much. And you'll be setting up your boat in the lava with DH.

You are a heathen and you're going to hell. ;) :)

And the winner for the most offensive post goes to...

This isthe kind of things athiests and non-Christians hear all the time but often Christians refuse to own up to the fact that their statements can be as offensive as anything from the other side.

Um, based on the other comments in that post, I would guess that the poster is not a Christian (based on the not caring for people who open conversations discussing Christianity).

Okay, I have to stop reading this. My stomach is killing me.

I was raised Catholic. Don't know if I would be considered an athiest.

I know I believe in karma though. So I am a Karmthiest! :thumbsup2

That shower you want to take isn't related to Joe. It's called "purification." You have slid down the ramp toward the depths of hell, and it is a dirty road. The real reason you want to shower is to wash the sin off of you.

And I don't care what the bible says. You have once again given me good advice, and I will keep my (non-bible-reading) faith. Good of you to work on God's part there. He must still be in your heart.:)

Have I worn you out yet?
