What about 14 & 11 ?
Adjoning room ? What if not available - separate room ?
Can an adjoining room be guaranteed ?

What age did you allow your kids (oldest to youngest) to stay in
thier own room ?

Does WDW have any age requirements ?

Can king bed be connected to a twin bed room in POP value or CSR moderate ? In a Deluxe we would be able to secure bunkbeds or a day bed.

Suggestions ?

Thanks :)

I think King are only avalible to Deluxe resorts and I dont know if they are all clustered together?

I would request a connecting room and notate one if for kids who are minors on teh request. We had connecting rooms at SOG a few weeks ago and we left the door open between the two rooms all the time so we had a lot more space too. (We went with adult children and grandkids.)

When my kids were youngr (I think age 17 and 14) We once had them a room for themselves at a hotel in Victoria BC. It was not connecting and I didnt mind them being alone either.

I don't think I could go for non-connecting rooms at this age. If that was your only option, I would split the adults between the two rooms. You would not want them in the room alone without the deadbolt on the door and you would not want to be locked out that way yourself.

We did separate rooms when our two oldest were 16 and 14, but the room was next door with thin walls and doors and in a small town that was pretty safe.

JMHO.

We are renting a 2bed from a DVC'er. It is about half as much as using CRO for same room! Go to DVC board to find out # of points. Many will rent to you for $10/point which is very reasonable. You will also have a kitchen to save money on meals (to make up for the cost of the room). OKW will be least expensive but you can use SSR, VWL, BWV or BCV as well! My kids are only 4 & 1 but we cannot enjoy a vacation as much with them in the room with us!

Well if you decide not to rent points and do a villa, then I would put in the request for connecting rooms and then ask at check in and let them know they are minors, and if you really had to you could split up the adults in the group! I personally would not be comfortable with choldren that age in a seperate non-adjoining room. The DVC is a grat idea though for a pretty good price and great accomodations!

My DD had her own room from the time she was born. We did the nursery thing and it worked out fine. We had the camera in her room with sound so I was OK with leaving her in her nursery alone. I'm glad I decided to do it because she is not afraid of the dark and she has never wanted to sleep in our bed. :)

I am almost positive at least one person in each room must be 18yrs or older.

I believe that the over-18 rule applies to the party, not the individual room; in that someone has to be over 18 in order for the party to be allowed to check in.

I've seen situations where very young children are alone in a room that connects with their parents' room; even babies. If you flip the safety latch loop on the door and remove any chairs from the room; young children will not be able to open the main door from inside. You can also stuff the strikeplates on the connecting door so that the locks won't engage. I know that when we've had connecting rooms where one room is occupied only by minors, their parents are given keys to that room, too.

If the rooms connect, that would be no different than having their own room at home. Leave the doors open if you wish. With adjoining room, I would say no way. They are too young. The problem might be that WDW will not guarentee adjoining rooms since there are two adults. If you really need more room I would look into other options. Perhaps the cabins at FW if the DVC does not work out. AS someone else mentioned perhaps a cot would be an soulution. As a child and now as a mom there has always been something special about all being in one room together for vacations, time at night giggling and watching TV. Good luck in finding a solution.

We have a 12 year old (soon to be 13) and 11 year old. We allow them to share an room - adjoining to parents' room - and yes, we get a key to their room.

We have used a 2 BR at VWL and OKW. It works for us!

When would I allow kids to have their own room? When they are able to pay for it themselves!! LOL! I only have 2 kids, so I don't think it will be an issue until they are older. Then they are not going to be able to share a bed (boy and girl), and we'll have to think of something else, like a cot or on the floor!

But, since they are only 4 and 6 I don't have to worry about that for a while....

Yes, Sorcha! When they're 18+ and can pay for it - I'll be glad to let them have their own room - and we won't ask for a key.
By then, the parents will be absolutely the LAST "people"
they'll want to go with! LOL!!!

Ours are 12 year old girl and 11 year old boy.
We prefer to get them a room with 2 double or queen beds.
They get along (for the most part) so it still works for us.

We might be able to get by (for a short trip) with a 1 bedroom -
but the 4 folks sharing a bathroom just DOESN'T work!!!

Thanks for sharing!

our kids had their own room just last week, and they are 9.5 and 7.5 yo... of course their room was connected to ours and we kept the doors unlocked in between... we also threw a towel over the tops of both doors just to insure that they do not get accidentally locked! the loved having their own space, and when we were confined to quarters during HF, we were glad to have two tvs! (one for disney movies the other to watch the weather reports!)

i don't think connecting rooms are any different than having a suite, as long as your kids know not to open the door to strangers or go out w/out you!

If they are responsible kids at 11 and 14, who won't take advantage and try to go out, then I think it is okay for them to be in a room alone. I know at that age my cousin and I were allowed to be by ourselves. We just had to keep the adults posted as to where we were. I would request joined or "next door" rooms, but if it is in the same building side in any of the resorts they will be close enough by that if they needed you, you would be available. Other than our DVC points, that will be our problem in 10 years - we'll have 3 kids and most hotels can only have 4 - we'll have to do 2 rooms anyway!
