I found this board so helpful planning my vacation, thought I would give back and post what I thought of the restaurants we ate at.
We had 9 in our group: six adults, a six year old, a five year old, and a three year old.
Table service
Day 1: ohana for dinner. Most of the adults felt this was the best meal of the trip. As far as food goes, I dont think we could find any weaknesses although a few did mention it was a bit of a pain peeling all the shrimp if you wanted to eat more than a few. We loved the atmosphere as well. The kids loved the coconut races.
Day 2: 50s Prime Time Café for lunch. Decent food, although nobody was blown away. But really, how can anyone be blown away with meatloaf and fried chicken? PB&J milkshake was awesome. Service was great at first, the waitress was giving a few of us a good natured hard time, but unfortunately, the three year old got quite upset with at the server for picking on her father. Not the waitresses fault at all, but it did lessen the experience. I would advise parents of pre-schoolers to be aware of issues like this if the kids too young to get the humor and are protective of their parents.
Day 3: Crystal Palace dinner. Food was ok for a buffet. Were pretty disappointed with the character interaction. While Piglet worked our section a few times, Pooh only stopped by because we stuck around longer than we wanted to. Tigger walked past out table once, patted the kids on the head and kept going. He spent the whole rest of the meal on the other side of the restaurant. We saw Eeyore at the other side of the restaurant when we were first seated, but never after that.
Day 4: Whispering Canyon Café dinner. Food was tasty, although some of us overdid it with the bottomless milkshakes and it kind of ruined our supper! Everyone got a kick out the ketchup thing and the kids enjoyed the wooden horse thing. Overall a nice experience and many of the adults placed the meal second best after ohana.
Day 5: Biergarten dinner. Most in our group did not care for the food overly. Our group are not the most adventuresome eaters, but I thought there would be something each would enjoy when I made the ADR. At the very least, I thought everyone would like the chicken schnitzel (deep fried chicken is usually a safe bet), but it was very tough and chewy. Everyone did like the warm potato salad, and some thought the Bavarian cheesecake was one of the best desserts on the trip. Great atmosphere, the kids had a blast dancing with the band.
Day 6: Cinderellas Royal Table lunch. Food was tasted pretty good (I had the ribs). It was a nice change of pace after several days of all you can eat type places. Character interaction was good too. Ariel actually went under the table to play with the three year old. That being said, I probably would not pay out of pocket or use a double DDP credit for it the next time we go.
Day 7: Chef Mickey dinner. Despite the negative reviews on theses boards, everyone enjoyed the dinner at least much more than Crystal Palace, both in terms of food and character interaction. Characters appeared in an orderly fashion and saw everyone by the time we were on dessert. On a side note, Donald actually came by twice the second time he shrunk about 6 inches and signed my daughters autograph book completely differently.
Counter services
Our group split up for several of these so I will only comment on the ones I personally ate at
Day 1: Pecos Bills lunch. I had chicken wrap good portion size and tasty
Day 2: Fairfax Fare/Catalina Eddies supper. Shared my chicken and ribs with someone else and they shared their pizza with me. Chicken and ribs were ok, but ribs were a little too fatty. Pizza was way too greasy.
Day 3: Sunshine Seasons lunch. I had Spicy Cashew Chicken. Meal was very good, however was disappointed with the service of the cashier. While my wife waited with the kids, I went to get the food. My tray could not hold all of our meals, drinks, and desserts. I asked the cashier if I could drop my tray off, and come back and get the rest. I was even willing to re-wait in line and show my receipt. She was not accommodating at all and said everything had to go through then and there. Eventually a stranger who did not have a full tray offered to take some of my stuff for me. Perhaps it is just company policy and not the cashiers fault, but you would think Disney would come up with an alternative solution for situations like this.
Day 4: Cosmic Rays supper: I have chicken and ribs. Nice big portions. Tasty food, and the robot guy kept the kids entertained.
Day 5: Restaurantosaurous. I had the shrimp po boy. Very enjoyable food. My only problem was the AC must have been cranked as it was way too cold. Also, they should reconsider where they put their trashcan. Directly under an air condition vent is probably not the best place as it blows peoples napkins, ect all over the place.
Day 6: Captain Cooks at Polynesian dinner. I had Stir Fried Noodles with Chicken. Very good and tasty. A friend had pork nachos. They where very good as well.
Day 7: Toy Story Pizza Planet lunch. I had vegetarian pizza. Pizza here was much better that Catalina Eddies at the other end of the park. I also thought the Cappuccino cupcake was one of the best QS desserts. On the negative side, I think this was the slowest moving line of any counter service restaurant we ate at.
