AT&T's unlimited messaging and movile to mobile calls

Has anyone changed their plan from unlimited texting to the new one where it is unlimited mobile to mobile too? With 3 kids with cells I would love to be able to drop our plan minutes and add this feature but was wondering if there was a catch.

I have had unlimited mobile to mobile since it was first offered. I found out about it on the dis boards, and called ATT and asked for it. There is no catch that I know of. I do still have unlimited text though.

Are you happy with AT&T? Our DS is looking at the ULTD Talk/Text/Data for $69.99 a month.
The Data is 200MB at 4G and then drops to a lower speed after that for no charge. Is this a good plan? He has no internet where he lives, so the net access is important to him for Facebook. Of course texting is THE most important thing as well.

Any ideas on the Pantech Laser phone? He liked the look of that one and it got ok reviews except for the battery life. Any other suggestions? I think he wants the keyboard, FYI.

I looked but the family plan we're grandfathered under doesn't qualify and it is actually more minutes and costs a little less than the current 700 minute Family plan.

Getting more minutes for free really isn't a concern for us anyway, since we've never once gone over our minutes in about 10 years. I think our rollover balance is around 4000 minutes and we expire a couple hundred minutes every month.

I have look at talk/text/data prepaid plan that is 50 bucks a month. The data is 3g. If thats all he wants do. If does decide to take that route make sure he gets a phone that use java so he can surf for free apps for the phone. Now ATT is not tell this now. LOL

I have a LG Prime and the first thing I did was download Opera Moblie on the phone. It compress the data and make it go faster.

Yes I know the LG Prime is prepaid phone but I am out contract and refuse sign a 2 year agreement to get a new phone.

No catch that I can tell. We have 4 users- 700 minutes a month and since I switched to the unlimited mobile to mobile (same exact cost) I have had about 250 rollover minutes/month.

The "catch" for us is that you aren't allowed to add it to a plan with less than 700 minutes. Which is what we already have.

Our plan is so old, from 2002 that it doesn't make any sense to change the minute plan. The new plans are more expensive with fewer minutes, and no reason to give up the few thousand in rollover minutes.

Some plans allow you to add the mobile to mobile for free without changing anything.

If you're at a 1,000 minutes or more, and always have rollover, then drop it to 800 or so that would better suit your needs. Just remember to compare your pricing with the new packages available.

Adding mobile to mobile won't get rid of the rollover minutes, but changing the minute plan will.

Say the OP has 1200 any time minutes, with 3,000 banked minutes. If they add mobile to mobile, well that would cut down significantly on how many of the 1200 any time minutes they use.
So they decide to drop to an 700 any time minute plan, their rollover would drop to 700 minutes, and they'd have to rebuild that.

Like the plan I'm on, it's 750 anytime minutes for 59.99. And it's grandfathered in at $20 a month for unlimited family texting.
If I changed it, which would be stupid. The cheapest plan is 550 any time minutes at 59.99, and texting would go up to $30 per month, and my rollover minutes would drop to 550.

For most people, if they've had a contract for years, it's not worth it to change the minute plan, just because it's not as a good of deal as it once was.

Yes, we have just recently changed! I have read through the posts and some are correct while a couple of things are incorrect.

1) Yes I did have to change my plan as my old plan included 850 mins. per month for $59.99. I essentially "lost" 150 minutes gradfathered plan and I am paying $60/month

2) I was concerned that I may lose our banked minutes of well over 2,000 minutes and told the rep that I did not want to lose any minutes so she not only kept my banked ones, but gave us some extra ones as well.

3) You have to determine what makes the most sense for your family. The majority of our calls on our cells are to other mobile numbers including other carriers. Therefore even dropping our plan by 150 minutes we will more than make up for it with how much we talk to other mobile phones. And although we can only bank up to 700 per month, we are already seeing that we are banking more than we did on our 850 min plan. Our teen daughter has a boyfriend that has a different carrier so we were about to start to eat into our balance anyways.

4) This plan isn't for everyone, but maybe it makes sense to your family. I understand some of the previous posters it not making sense to them with what they are grandfathered into.

5) A friend of ours also switched to this plan and they are actually saving money as they were able to reduce from a 1200 or 1400 minute per month plan down to the 700 and they are still banking minutes.

I've also had my plan forever, and what I pay for the 1100 minutes is still less than the cheapest calling plan. I also pay for unlimited data on two iphones, and when I got mine, I could not get unlimited so I pay the $25 for that one. I also pay for unlimited texting. I didn't have to change my plan or lose anything to add the mobile to any mobile feature. As long as you pay for unlimited texting, you are eligible. I also have about 4,000 rollover minutes at this point, and again thanks to this board for giving me the heads up a couple of months ago.

yep and we love it.. It cut our bill down and we dont even use 100 minutes towards the 700 a month. We have 4 lines.

The free mobil to ANY mobil is for those who have the $30 unlimited texting plan. You don't need to change your minutes you just have to have the unlimited text. If you have that you need to call AT&T and ask for the free mobil to any mobil. We did this when Verizion first got the Iphone. Not sure AT&t is still offering it. But we did have to call and ask.

so glad I saw this post! I have the 700 minutes plan with unlimited texting, so it didn't cost a thing to switch over to the mobile to any mobile calling. I still have my existing plan, complete with earning rollover minutes!

now I can seriously look at getting rid of my landline!

I really can't think of any reason not to do it if you are already on a plan that it can be added to. Hopefully after a month or so you'll find you can drop to a cheaper plan.
