I don't understand at&t Uverse at all.

Right now we are recording three shows (one in HD, the others are regular). My mom is also downstairs watching tv in her room. I turn my television on and the screen is black. Then a little thing pops up saying the uverse is doing too many things and I have to chose from one of three options:
1. Try again
2. Stop a recording (I would do this if I had set up any of the shows to be recorded, but I didn't. They're all for my dad, mom and brother)
3. Interrupt a tv (:confused3 why should I make my mom stop watching tv???)

On the commercial for uverse they're always bragging about how you can record up to four shows and watch them anywhere in the house. They sure don't tell you how if you do record four shows you cant have two tv's on in the house because its too many things for the little box to do all at once. This has happened on several occasions and its getting really frustrating. Has this happened to anyone else before??

ALL I WANT IS TO WATCH TV THAT WE ARE PAYING $$$$$$ FOR!!!!!! :headache:

Ok vent over. I'll admit im procrastinating from homework  .... but I really want to watch tv and relax instead!

this happens to me all the time and I just hit the interupt another TV. I have never had anyone say that I stopped their TV and I get all the recordings. I think it just might be a glitch when you are taping 4 shows. Test it later, set up to record 4 shows and have the other tv on and see if my way works.

You can oly have four channels going at once...So if you are taping 4 on the one tv no other boxes can be on...Or you can tape 3 things and have your mom's tv on.

Uverse is what I do for a living. First of all, I'm sorry. It's not thoroughly explained to the customer exactly how it works. There are many things that I know are not thoroughly explained to the customer, especially by sales, and some of them are pretty crucial.
It's true, you only have four streams of video at one time, you can divvy those up however you choose - watch four things on four different TVs, record two and watch two others, etc. The exception to this is the HD streams, you only have two of those. So, if you're recording two HD shows, you can't watch a third without stealing a stream from the DVR.
It's a great product, but you have to know what you're getting into when you sign up. Anything less is unfair to the customer.
Any questions, feel free to ask. :)

Standard consumer reading of marketing literature highlights the words "up to". Whenever you see those words, you know to research what it means, because "up to" literally means, possibly zero.

The issue is that there is a certain amount of capacity that is allocated to your home. Unlike the local cable company, the capacity U-Verse allocates to you is yours, alone -- it is dedicated capacity. How much you get is indicated in the package specs (a little deeper than the marketing glossies that you're referring to, but readily available for you to read). You use that capacity as you wish. You don't lose service because your neighbor starts downloading a movie from Netflix (something which indeed could happen with your local cable company).

Well, in your case, you are using more capacity than you paid for. Again, the nature of U-Verse is that, unlike cable, you really do get exactly what you're paying for, no less, but also no more.
