AT&T Service at Sea

Anyone use AT&T CRUISE TALK, TEXT & DATA? The website says it costs $100 for 30 days. Are there any other charges? How was it at sea?

We are headed to the Hawaii to Vancouver cruise next year. DH owns his own company and needs to stay in touch while we are away - especially the 5 days at sea. (We've never cruised this long before).

A co-worker of mine has used it and she hasn't had any issues with it.

The one time I used it on a DCL Carib cruise back in 2013, I was unimpressed with call quality and reliability while at sea.

It worked, kind of. Dialing out failed frequently, and calls dropped a lot. A lot of dead spots, too, even when I was on the pool deck with clear sky above me.

Data was “slow” with a capital “SLOW”. Unusable for anything other than text-only emails. I eventually gave up and just waited until we hit a port.

Hopefully, things have improved over the last six years.

Do you have to buy it for the whole 30 days? We're doing the TA next year and it's a long time for my pet sitter not to be able to get in touch.

I looked it up on At&t's site. The $100 option includes some internet. The $50 option is 50 (I think) phone calls and unlimited texts. That's what I'll be picking. It doesn't appear that there is an option for anything less than 30 days.

I used the $50 plan on the WBPC earlier this year. It included 50 minutes talk time and unlimited outgoing text messages. Incoming texts were about 50 cents each. The call quality was fine and I had no issues with dropped calls. It worked out well for my needs. The charge for incoming texts occurred if you opened/read the text. I just made sure I only opened those that were neccessary. Also the calling pretty much only works in the stateroom areas. You need to call AT&T to add the plan prior to leaving, your local AT&T stores won't be able to help with it.
