Just wanted to give a heads up about the dealings I have had with At&T. With my employer I am offered a 19% discount for AT&T. They say it takes a few months to appear on the bill. Well, I have had my phone for 15 months and it has never appeared. I just wanted to warn people about how they run things. Now maybe just the actual store I go to is run by morons but I have also called the 1-800 number over 30 times and gotten the same runaround. so my advice is to not take any stock in discounts they offer. They, (at least in my store) , only care about getting you in a contract and at that point the customer service stops.
I figured this is budget realted because we all look for discounts and this was a total scam. If it needs to be moved to another board please move it.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that.

I get a 22% discount on the service through my employer, and the discount was available to me within 30 days.

Of course my employer gave me all the info I would need. I called 611 from my phone...gave them the codes that I needed, and faxed a copy of a pay stub (with everything buy my company's name and my name/address blocked out)

Same here - hubby gets a 20 % discount with AT & T through his employer also and it took effect immediately.

Did you provide AT & T with a company number from the employer? I know DH had to supply a number when we got our new plan.

We get a discount through sprint, same deal as the pp. Hubby had to provide the info and I think it took a month to go through. They also credited us the previous month's credit. What about your employer? Has anyone else ran into this problem? Did they resolve it?

We also get an employee discount. It showed up on the first bill. DH just had to show employee ID.

Customer Service has been great when we have had problems. We always go to an actual AT&T store (and previously Cingular/Cellular One) rather than a kiosk. I was even advised where I might be able to have an out-of-warranty phone repaired recently, rather than just being told to get a new phone.

Call the 800 number that you have and ask to speak to a supervisor. Explain the situation to them and provide the necessary information for your employer. Ask the supervisor to give you an adjustment for the incorrect billing. It may take a month or two to get the adjustment depending on the "backlog" of work that the billing specialist has. (They normally can't back-date an order back but just a few months and a manual adjustment will have to be made.) The representative that answers the phone when you first call is VERY LIMITED in the amount of an adjustment that he/she can make - it will have to go to a supervisor to be handled properly. (I am a former AT&T employee and was a manager in the business office. Keep after them and if you are due any credit they will get your credit to you,)

There's been a discount on our bill for years and years now. The original contract was written maybe a year or two before working for a company that offered the discount. Didn't take any time at all for the discount to appear and it's been on there for several years now, since at least 05 if not 04. Nothing like saving 20%. And this is through AT&T as well, back then it was cingular though, but when I call it still says "thanks for calling business customer care".

Well, I personally take offense to this. I was one of those 'morons' for over 20 years and half of the people who call in don't know their feet from a hole in the ground. Do you have any idea how many calls a rep takes per day and everyone expects them to work a miracle or make an exception 'just this once'.

BTW, as a moron, even I realized you spell it 'related' and not 'realted'.

Off my soapbox now.

We also get the discount through SO's employer. If I remember correctly we "logged in" through a link on the employer discounts/savings page his company has and it put the necessary "code" (employer number or whatever) in. We did have to wait through at least one billing cycle before it showed up.

To the other comment about the AT&T stores just trying to get you to sign a contract...I have to say that this was our experience as well. We had HUGE billing problems when we first switched to AT&T from Sprint (we wanted to bundle the wireless with our other AT&T plans). We went to a physical AT&T store as we wanted to see/touch the phones to decide. The clerk was terrible, couldn't figure out how to activate, couldn't port our old numbers, messed up our plan. We had a family plan with 2 phones sharing minutes and unlimited texting and unlimited web. When I got our first bill they had 1 phone tied to the family plan and the other phone on its own plan. Nothing was bundled with our other services. They promised us an additional bundle discount and an upgrade for our DSL neither of which we could get, we were supposed to have the activation waived, it was on the bill. I had to call AT&T cust serv 3 times and go through 3 billing cycles before it was all squared away.

And don't even get me started on the crazy ridiculous issues we have at our office with our AT&T billing/service. :headache:

It's not a scam - we get the same discount through my employer. When I read it on our company website, I clicked a link they had set up, logged into our account, added the company discount code or whatever I had to do, and our credit starting showing up the next month.

If you're trying to do it IN the store, that might be the problem.

So you don't work for that company any more?

I would think that you shouldn't qualify for the discount any longer :confused3

No they meant they already had an AT&T contract before they started working for a company that gets the discount, so they added it to their existing account.

You don't have an Iphone do you?
IIRC the discount does not include iPhones.

We've lived here since August and have AT&T. EVERY month they double bill us for our phone and internet. Every month my DH calls and gets it fixed and they promise it won't happen again. We will definitely not be renewing with them when the contract is up.

well if you read the OP's comment correctly, it stated --- maybe the store I go to is run by morons...they didn't call the operators that, even though they said they have gotten the same run around 30+ times.

:scared1:

Verizon did the same exact thing to me. They offered at 21% discount, I faxed all the documents, then month after month after month I had to call to retroact the discount. After 6 months of calling, they finally refused to take the discount. It took 2 hours, at least 6-8 so called "supervisors" and then finally a call from corporate until things got straightened out.

Now they are charging us for downloads which we are not downloading. It took several hours to get that fixed again.

Needless to say, when the Verizon contract is done, we are long gone.

We get our AT&T work discount and we got it by going into the store and showing our work ID (we work for the same company.)

Can you find another store near you to go into and speak with a manager to get it resolved?

That's weird. DH's work has a link to click through, and it took effect immediately.

We were with them since they were Cingular, and when he got this job we started getting the discount as soon as he clicked it, basically.

We do get the discount on the normal account, but DH has an iphone for work (they provided it) and there is a flat fee extra for its service that isn't part of the discount.

The OP said "maybe just the actual store I go to is run by morons"...

And she's not trying to get anything special or an one time exception. She's trying to get something that she's absolutely entitled to, and it should be quick and easy. There's nothing complicated in an employer discount.

That's correct Vicki.

Although the original discount came from Home Depot, it now comes from Disney, but it's still 20%
