Has anyone used the AT&T international service on DCL? I see that it is $20 for land and sea. Does it work well? If you only use it while docked at a port, do you only get charged $12 for that day? Can ypu still use the navigator on wifi on days you don't need anything else?

I haven’t used the service, but I did just talk with them about it. They said it is $20 per day for land and sea, but only $12 if you just use your phone at port.

You can pick and choose the days you use it. Yes, you can still just use DCL WiFi for the navigator app on days you don’t chose to pay the $20.

I'm thinking of doing this for July. We typically buy the DCL package and then also buy individual days for $12 for when we get off the ship. Seems like we will save money doing the AT&T package instead.

Hmmm.. we went to Alaska last year in June and phone popped up with a message that AT&T plan didn't cover that part of the sea and would be charged an arm and a leg if continued. BF didn't turn phone to airplane mode, racked up 100$, and then got his service frozen until he managed to call in (something kicks in once you hit a certain level of charges or something, overheard a guy on Nassau-Lookout itinerary also complaining about 100$ of charges).

So This is in your cellular, correct? So if you put on airplane and wifi, you should be ok for the navigatior until you're in a port and turn it back on?

We used it earlier this month for one day - no complaints! I'd do it again next time. The main drawback is it still takes from your data pool from the month AFAIK, whereas if you use the ships' WIFI or an international esim it wouldn't.

I've used both. I used it in Japan and once on a cruise ship. It's 12 per day and 6 for other devices. Both times my bill was really screwed up. I got charged for devices that I did not request international service on. I do believe you only get charged for the days you use.
If you con't buy it be careful and make sure your phones are in airplane mode or they will charge you data even if you don't touch your phone. I've learned this the hard way.
I plan on going back to T-mobile. International was included with T-mobile and I never had to worry about it. Never had charges on cruise even when I left my phone on.

This is exactly what happened to us. This was right after we switched from T-mobile to ATT. I had no idea other carriers did this. We had T-mobile for 30+ cruises and never had this happen. With T-mobile if we were close to land and a cell tower I would get service and if we were out at sea no service. Once in a while I would be get a pop up asking if I would like to use cellular at sea and what the exact charges would be and I could hit yes or no. ATT is sneaky.

ATT is sneaky, in general. This is a timely post as I hope to use it on my B2B in September. I have unlimited data on my plan, so not worried about that so much. Cheaper than DCL, so a plus. I do need to stay in touch with home on this trip. We have ATT but our provider is through First Net as we have first responder benefits. Going to give them a call and see if it will all work for me.

I got hit with a $20 charge while on the Treasure two weeks ago because I forgot to switch my phone back to airplane mode once back on the ship. I don't like how AT&T just charges without asking first but my husband said it probably starts fetching emails and whatever and it assumes you want the package.

I have first net too. Normally international plans on AT&T 10 days is the max they charge. Now with first net there is no Max. In Japan I got charged for the whole 16 days. I was told that because I was on a discounted plan the 10 day max did not apply. Something to be aware of if you take a long trip.

Turn off data roaming and you don't have to worry about it. You'll need to turn that back on if you decide you DO want to pay for it. We still connected in St Thomas fine even with it off, since we were not roaming.

Yes. Agree about Data Roaming. A LOT goes on in the background with data - emails and updates and weather and stock prices, etc. just because you don’t click on your mailbox doesn’t mean mail isn’t being “delivered”.

I used it in August when we did our 4 night magic. I was able to FaceTime from lighthouse cay and make a post on the dis lol. I didn’t use it really at sea since I was busy enjoying disconnecting. I will say I have and iPhone and did not have the package when we did Alaska and I was able to send I messages to people at home no media. I was also able to FaceTime my parents on glacier day so they could see it.
