At "self service" drink stations - do you refill?

example - you're at McD's/Burger King/Taco Bell and they have a 'self service' drinking station...meaning, you order a drink size (small/medium/large) and you are given an empty cup to fill with whatever you want.

Do you refill it at will? Like - during your meal or afterwards "for the ride home"?

I do...heck, I worked at a fast food place as a teen - it was totally alowed. (buy a small and fill it up as often as you like)

Someone over on the resort board said that getting a drink at a WDW Resort food court did NOT entitle you to free refills...which I think is crap...as it's a self service station. (what are you going to do? go pay for a fresh cup?!?)

If I dont' have a refillable mug, and I order a medium drink - yes, I'll refill it once or twice during my meal...but I ain't gonna bring the cup back the next day for a refill!

What are your thoughts?

I always buy a small drink and refill as often as I want. Sometimes i share with my 7 year-old.

Yep. I sure do. I always thought it was allowed.

I sure do refill them at restaurants with the self serve bar. I asked at one if that was allowed and they said yeah why else would be charge 1.79 for a medium drink. If you're eating here you're going to need something to drink so why would you even ask. That's the last time I asked.

Stinkerbelle,

I agree with you. I always buy the smallest drink at McDonald's and then refill while I'm there if I need. Actually, I hardly refill as I'm not a big "drinker" but I will if the urge hits me.

I feel the same way at the WDW resorts. As long as you are there having your meal, you should be able to refill your cup. If they don't want you to refill, then they need to say so. But, I guess there is a worry that someone will save their paper cup the whole week, right?

We have a little deli in my office building. When you get a soda, they hand you a cup. There are signs all over that say "no refills". I think that's the right way to handle it.

Unless there's a sign saying "No free refills" - yep, I sure do! I always get a refill for the road.

I don't normally. I don't like soda so a small is more than enough for me. However, if I finished it and was thirsty, I probably would.

FYI - that stuff should be drank in small quantities..

Yep, I refill. Even at restaurants they refill for no extra charge. The cost of soda is sooooo minimal - like pennies. Now, if it was prohibited, I wouldn't. I imagine the fast food establishments are aware that when they allow self serve, that people will refill. Maybe a fast-food manager can weigh in on this because I don't want to continue doing something that is really not allowed.

Yes, allowed. I also worked in the dreaded FF as a teen and we didn't have self-service drinks but refills were allowed, people just brought their empty cups back to us. At any given meal you can refill as you please (except at some NY restaurants, which is ridiculous and annoying and also at the mall you usually can't for free either).

Just as long as you don't share it with another person. LOL There was a thread about that once around here.

trust me - those cups only have likea 9 hour shelf life!

as proved by the Mt. Dew incident when I was 19. heheh...came home from work (taco bell) with a Mt. Dew...left it on my nightstand over night...cup started leaking (the bottom was giving way! heheh)

soda is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cheap for the restaurant...it really is...pennies per customer.

Yep and the last I was there ...no such signs at WDW resorts.

What do those folks who said that on the other board do...spend their whole lives playing "mother may i"??

Self-serve=refills. :cool1:

We do. My hubby and I usually share a large drink also. They know people do it and if they had a problem with it I think they'd let it be known.

Yes, but what if they had two or three refills during their meal, emptied the cup, took it back to their room and carefully dried it with the free, in-room blow dryer to the remove the moisture. Don't you think they could get the cup to last a few more days??

Hey, I think my post belongs over on the Budget Board!

I was thinking the same thing. That's amazing!

I only drink unsweet tea and I usually buy a large one - I have no problem about refilling it. Personally, I would feel a little bad about ordering a small and refilling it - I am not saying anything negative about the people who do - I am just saying that I would feel uncomfortable about it. I figure, I purchased the largest cup they have and unsweet tea costs litterally pennies a gallon so yes, I will refill a large.
