At Last! All Illegal Immigrants to be expelled.

Sure, after you killed most of the 'legal residents' (Native Americans) there surely was a lot of room and demand for 'legal' immigrants

Of course, Good Old Germany never killed anyone off.

I'd love it if the government decided to actual *do* something about all the illegals, but I'll believe it when I see it.

exactly.

That has NOTHING to do with this discussion. Most people would agree that what we did to the Native Americans was horrible and wrong and a big stain on our country's history.

Let me try to make clear what I am trying to say on the "morality" issue so as not to give unintended offense. I do believe that we are called morally to extend aid and hospitality to the stranger, but that is one of those "hard" teachings that I only occasionally live up to myself. So while I may say that we have a moral obligation help the immigrant, I appreciate that it is not easy to live up to, and I am not judgmental about those that feel differently or do not live up to it.

..So I may sincerely state that it is our moral duty to support the immigrant, but I don't mean to sound as if I am suggesting that those do not are cruel or consciously evil. I hope that was clear - no offense was intended.

I do extend aid and hospitality on a personal, individual basis, but enforcing the laws of our country and helping the people while they live within their own countries, through aid, Peace Corp, Catholic Charities, etc. is an acceptable and moral alternative to letting these people break our laws and take our jobs. I am "consciously" and thoughtfully taking this position, I fail to see where it is evil and feel no need to reflect upon it or change it to "live up to" a standard that you have created.

The added cost is much higher than you may think..farm workers alone would be a huge impact..if you think it is just 1.00 a pound difference per apple etc your not aware of the huge impact a difference of even .25 per hour would make to the farmers bottom line (which in many cases is already being added to by subsdiy from gov but that's another thread).

You may not be able to truly afford the accross the board increases that would result in prices (and neither would the folks who took the new min. wage jobs created by the depature of immigrant workers).

and yes Canada faces the same issues in many areas from immigrants from a wide variety of countries as well.

That doesn't make any sense. Let's say an average illegal worker makes $5.00 per hour and picks 30 lbs of apples per hour. The new worker will make maybe $10 per hour. The difference is spread over 30 lbs, so that's an increase of 16.6 cents per pound. Tell me why the increase would be over $1 per pound without illegals picking apples. Plus, I'm o.k. with temporary farm workers during picking seasons. We should just make darn certain they return when the season is over.

Canada, like England, doesn't face the same issues as the U.S. on the same level because they don't share a border with a poor nation, well, not yet.

probably because the new worker is required to have social security, payroll taxes, workmans comp....paid by the employer (and if they pay that employee under the table they are doing so illegaly so the argument is moot) which drives up their per pound price.

for me, i would just like to benefit from the produce that is grown localy to my home. we are surrounded by fields of fruits, veggies and nut products yet we never see them in local groceries, all are shipped out across the country or overseas. we instead get "hot house" imported products which are greatly lacking in quality.

and while i can't speak to other parts of the country, our produce prices have quadrupled in the past year, and we have yet to see a real impact from fuel cost increases. i personaly would welcome the opportunity to shop at a walmart for food items, but californian communities have taken to fighting against their building-in large part because a lot of people feel they do not offer a "living wage" to their employees.

First I heard of the break in, but, it really does not matter. They were detained unlawfully, assaulted, pistol whipped, etc. The man doing the whipping was convicted of a fire arms crime, and lost his ranch, and then had to buy it back, and now has a judgment hanging over his head, the owner of the ranch who asked him to come protect the border paid 100k. I look forward to getting an illegal immigrant in my office who had been abused by the minutemen. Maybe I could make a social change, while putting something away for my kids' college education.

oops, not a break in, they were crossing over the property of the ranch owner while they were illegally entering the country. They were given food and a blanket by the ranch owner. I wonder if that was before or after the pistol whipping? By the way, the illegals testified about the food and blanket. Gee, and then they get some liberal lawyers to get them the ranch, and now they can apply for visas because they have been victims of the crime.... It stinks.

It's not one I have created. It's part of Church teaching. Again, no offense was intended, but it seems you are intent on finding it

Even if you factor in unemployment, etc, it's still only a fraction of the worker's salary, so let's say another 16 cents per pound. Compared the increase in fuel costs this year to the average citizen, that type of an increase on each food that currently uses illegals, would be trivial.

This year our produce is the same as last year. Apples $1.59 per pound.

According to your PhD in Economics, what will happen if the supply of labor contracts and the demand is constant? Oh yeah, the price for that commodity, labor in this case, will increase. When the illegals are sent back, the labor that remains (U.S. citizens) will be paid more for the same jobs. Many of us have already said that we are willing to absorb that added cost.

Gee, I better consult my PHD again  ;)You've presented one scenerio "Demand is constant". The great thing about Economics, there is always another "what if scenerio", another theory to counter the one you've just presented ;) Let's say Demand isn't constant... what happens then? And what about the long run curves, what do they say? :teacher: Yep, on the short run curves, as an employer, I'll suck up the higher priced domestic wages, but in the long run, there's this great global economy waiting for me. Can you say outsourcing?

You were clearly talking down to the anti-illegal posters with your Economics 101 speech. Maybe we both need some manners.

nwdisgal said:
Yes exactly. It is Economics 101 - Supply and Demand. :teacher: As long as there is demand for workers at a certain wage level, and a shortage of labor supply at that wage level, there will be illegal immigrants to fill in the gap. They wouldn't be coming here if there wasn't work available..

Hey, I just say what's on my mind in a way that makes my point. It's a COMMUNITY, afterall. Would you have us all go back to the dark ages and post only in the style of your choosing?

Anyone else sick of living in a country so full of hate?

Honu, I agree and momof2in PA I was merely pointing out "food for thought" not directly flaming people who do not support illegals.

No Kidding! :guilty:

This country is beautiful, but some people are just so miserable and their lives are full of hate and greed.
:sad2:

A) That's off-topic and superfluous.
B) If you would simply take a look at the holocaust-related thread on this board you would see that I have a very critical stance toward my country's history, too.

No, that wasn't it at all. I was just offering a perspective for people to think about. The world is a complex place.

Well, my past quotes are being brought out of the coffers... I hope I don't have any ex boyfriends on here :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I don't "hate" anybody, but that's the kind of speech those in favor of keeping illegal workers will use against the people that want the laws enforced. Not surprised.

No speech. That's just what I feel coming off this thread.

Have a nice day. :sunny:
