AT FORT WILDERNESS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

That does seem like an oversight to be that off level for the main pad. I have seen a lot of resorts put a 1-2% slope on the main pad and more off the main area. But that kind of slope would make it hard for many to find level it seems.

Day 7 & 8
This was the weekend and I had no desire to go off and visit any parks. So we hung out in the resort. Plenty for kids going on at pool. Evenings again activities for the younger set and for adults as well. Dinner was from the BBQ truck that came in and desert was Auntie Annies Pretzels from their truck o n Friday Saturday we tried Burger Truck and Donut truck for desert.
Sunday I hit the pool in the afternoon once crowds cleared out some

Hey Mike, can you post a picture of the FW Recreation and Movie Calendar for December? Someone asked on the Halloween Golf Cart Parade thread about the Christmas Parade time. There may be other special activities listed as well. We have the movie list covered in a different thread so don't need that info.

Thanks! Hope you're having a good time there.

Ed took care of it .

Days 9 x12
I have held off posting anything about these days for my own health and welfare purposes. Basically we restricted ourselves to the resort. We took advantage of the amenities the y offer. We did make a few trips to both the local WalMart and PUBLIX for last minute things. I also made a few meetings of the local chapters of The Good Mommy and Daddy Club.
Over all this is a High End Deluxe Resort. When It finishes transition to MARGARITAVILLE resort it will be interesting to see how things go.

Day 13
Today was move over to Ft W. Day. We were up early and got the girls off to the Dog Park and finished the last of our essential Break down and Pack up fr the move. Pulled out the gate just about 0820 am and arrived at the reception center at 0910. There was excess traffic for a bit with large numbers of vehicles entering I 4 from 27 and the next exit. Would have done better had I opted to move to the center or far left lanes.
We were assigned site 1811 apon arrival but found out 1807 which we had asked for would be available later that day and elected to wait for it. Off to overflow and to meet with Kenny and pick up our cart, We only waited another hour for our site to be ready for us. Once in, decorated our windshield area while I took care of the outside .
Dinner was at Trails End and we were disappointed to say the least. Our server care of us at snails pace. He took more than 10 minutes to take our drink order, brought bread basket 15 min after the Salad. I had to ask for Fried Chicken I asked for to be brought and when it did arrive it was NOT TRAILS END fried chicken.

Was wondering if you had made it to the fort yet. Glad to know. hope your trip is magical.

Trails End report is a bummer, but hopefully just a small bump on the road…

Great. Now I just need your help finding a great site for us near you. Something preferably flat with open sky to the southwest. And that is long enough for the coach and car.

And that's really sad about TE. I had decided I wouldn't bother this trip unless the buffet was back. We might do P&Js one night for chicken.

That's what we did. And it was good......real good.

Mike,

How long is 1810? That looks to be next to you and on an angle on the corner. I don't mind putting the wheels and stabilizers off in the gravel.

1831, right by the entrance, looks good on videos.

Jim 1410 according to Fort Fiends is 47 x14 1831 is 54 x14 1808 55 x 15 all worth a look

Of course it depends if any of them are available the morning Teamubr arrives. Maybe you can decide on one or two to ask for and add a request to your reservation?

I wonder if that includes the gravel pad at the back? The coach is 42 ft, but there is close to 10 ft of overhang before the tires would be off the pavement.

I think I'll make a list of sites that look ok on videos and some that really don't (1809)

Site 1809 is occupied and likely will be till the end of January Jim The people there are friends of ours
I suspect those measurements are Pad + gravel Our site is listed as 61 x 14 Our Coach is 37 feet we tow Chevy EQUINOX . Our rear is over Gravel by @ 4 ft there is 4 foot from nose to toad and another 4 to road.

I started Faxing site request 10 days out and resent it every other day and didn't get any of my requests till I arrived and asked for it. We arrived prior to getting the official text and pre check in time we said we would arrive at

I've been advocating going in to the Fort lobby and talking to the CM's at the Front Desk for years, Mike. Over that time, I've always requested a specific loop in my reservation and it's been granted or the CM has at least mentioned that they have it.

Fax technology is something we used to advise here on this board back in the 1990s. I don't know how efficient a communication tool it is these days given lower staffing levels. You can fax, note, or send a loop request in by passenger pigeon. But nothing beats walking in early in the morning and negotiating face-to-face with a CM for a site with a smile and a "short list of my favorite sites". :teeth:

Glad you got a site you wanted, Mike.

Ed

I'll agree with that , it worked for me. And they were more then accommodating.

I started Faxing site request 10 days out
One of my younger staff was joking about a fax machine he found in an office and commented he saw one of them at the Smithsonian once. I didn't know many places used them anymore. Except for scanning/faxing on the copier at work, I don't have any way to send a fax. We switched to all cellular at home a few years ago and they aren't compatible with fax machines.

I have called down in the past to have a length note and loop request added to the reservation. It has only been 50/50 that either was considered for the assigned site. I try to arrive early (before 10am) and ask at the check in booth what is available for a really long setup. They pull out the book with the site details and look in the computer for what is available and we pick off that.

That's my plan again this year, although I will call and see if I can have an 1800 loop request added. I'm kind of liking 1831 by the entrance.
