At BWV, when did the std/preffered view come into being?

Just wondering how this came about. Was it before they went up for sale, or after? What was the time frame?? Thanks

they were opened in 95. I think in 96 they started preferred/standard view, due to complaints(?) of dvc members looking at the resort entrance and parking lot.

at okw there are no parking lot views and alot of the DVC members were used to that.

I believe that the nightmares caused by people being unhappy with their "Prefered View" and the difficulties in reserving a std view, has precluded any chance of a multi tiered system at any DVC resort ever again. The only exception to this that I see is possibly an AKL-DVC, where some have Savanah views.

BWV opened in July, 1996.

I think the point changes came almost immediately. I can't seem to find my point charts from '96 right now, but will keep searching.

They were early enough in the sales process to be able to revamp the points. They simply reduced the points for some rooms without raising the points for any of the rooms. I guess one could argue about the legal aspects but since they result was a gain for members without a corresponding loss, no reason to complain.

I didn't join DVC until late 1999, but I'm glad they made this change. Since I barely have enough points (and can't afford to add-on), I'm glad there is a lower point option. I paid preferred view points last year and got quiet pool view and wasn't too happy (requested BW view at 11 months), I liked our standard view this year just as well and it was 34 points less for 6 nights.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering because we asked MS if they ever considered doing the 2 tier at VWL. They said no, and that they would never do it again. They said the demand for STD view was too great. Also said that the information was already filed with the state of FL. In other words, it's too late.

Makes me wonder about BCV and their views. We'll see.....

Don't have to worry about it, there will never, ever be a two tiered system ever again. Its been WAY too much of a nightmare for them.

While I would agree that the 2 tier system is unlikely, I doubt MS would be in the know as to future plans in this area. With WLV, it wouldn't make sense and BCV has mostly all "standard views" compared to BWV. The big draw with BCV will be that it is the only game in town to buy directly from DVC and that likely one will need to be staying at BCV to use SAB.

At the BWV annual meeting some member suggested adding a 'BoardWalk view' tier. The board of directors response was a resounding NO.
