Astronaut Kidnapping Plot: Anyone See This?

Guess you and I had the same thought.

Ummm...*snapped* is too easy of a word...but I do believe her astronaut days are over.

She wore a diaper on the 900 mile road trip so she wouldn't have to stop for that sort of thing. Weird (except I just earned that astronauts where diapers on takeoff and landing...so now I know how she got that idea.)

The woman is certifiable nuts!!!

And she is marreid with 3 kids!

We must have been watching the same news account because thats where I heard about the diaper thing too!

Like the news said, there have been enough shuttle missions now so that we have a larger pool of astronauts so there will always be someone certifiable when you have a large group of people!

:scared1: She's just plain scary!

The diaper part of the story is what made me almost spit my coffee on my computer this morning. I think it's safe to say that we'll be seeing this chick on an episode of "Snapped" in the near future:scared1:

Oh, and as of this morning, NASA was claiming that she still has astronaut status. Methinks that that will be going bye bye shortly, though. It's probably really hard to fly to space when you're locked up:rolleyes:

Innocent until proven guilty I guess..this just happened yesterday. She was awaiting a mission--so hasn't been assigned one yet.

I'm sure we will see her status change soon. The evidence is too damning even if she is "let off" due to some insanity plea or something.

I think she was just reassigned to the county jail:rotfl: My guess is that her new mission will be sitting behind bars. You have to wonder what makes an otherwise accomplished woman with a family just lose it this way:confused3

Wow!

Here's my question though. Doesn't NASA put its astronauts through extensive psychological and personality testing before letting them into space? If she really was/is insane, wouldn't that have popped up on one of those tests?

The diaper thing is killing me:rotfl: The news anchors are almost gleeful when they get to the part about the diaper. They can hardly contain themselves, which is why one would wear a diaper. :lmao: The more I think about it, the funnier it gets:rotfl2:

Does anyone remember the Disney movie "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes"?
I think we have a sequel.:lmao:

Heard this on the Radio Station this morning on my drive to work. :sad2:

How sad. I feel pretty bad for her husband and kids. Can you imagine the amount of harassment those kids are gonna get at school?

she does look kinda nutty in her mug shot!

Yep I think this is one of the more bizarre things to come down the pike in a while. Just goes to show you that even the best and the brightest (astronauts) are not perfect and can have mental problems. The poor women has obviously lost her mind.

What I tripped on was I thought it involved her husband. But apparently she's married to another guy, and the triangle involved another male astronaut and some other women that she was going to kidnap. The man was not her husband! That's what I tripped on. At least I think I'm correct, I admit I just caught a quick snippet of the story so I may be missing pieces.

I could be mistaken in my interpretation...but....

it is a male pilot...and the other chick--has more than a working relationship..but less than a romantic one. I read that as they were really good buddies who probably got along really well and the Huggies lady thought she had a chance if she went psycho and get her out of the way.

My thoughts exactly... These Astronaouts train and fly together and put their lives, and the lives of others, in each others hands... :sad2:

The fact that this happened is just another example of NASA looking the other way, focused on 'technology' and 'the mission'. Just like the 'O-Rings' and the Columbia disaster.

The whole diaper thing makes me :sad2: . I guess I'd never make it as an astronaut OR a kidnapper.

Yes, they supposedly go through intense psychological testing as astronauts. I guess you never really know...

In fairness to NASA...she wasn't plotting this prior to her last mission....and she hadn't been assigned a mission yet and probably showed nothing on the radar just yet.

Also--someone posted (this thread or the other) that on the Today show..that one of her potential defenses is that she lost 4 friends in the Columbia disaster.....

Yet we hear nothing from the Apollo I disaster (is that the right one), Apollo XIII, Challenger disasters....noone went postal and plotted something against someone anywhere close to that magnitude.

I am willing to wait and see as she hasn't been charged with anything and it is HIGHLY doubtful she will be continuing on the program.

Some switch in her brain was probably flipped...I too wondered about the testing that NASA performs. I do not have a background in psychology or psychiatry...but I would guess that maybe they don't have co-worker love triangle what if scenarios that they ask about on those tests. :confused3

We can't blame NASA for this nut job.

Ohhh, I agree. I hope that you did not misread the intent of my post. NO WAY is NASA to blame. A person is personally responsible for their actions.

I am just pointing out, like the previous poster, that NASA with all of their psychological testing may have really been looking the other way and dropped the ball. NASA has all but admitted to dropping many balls after the last two tragedies that should not have happened.

I definitely do NOT blame NASA (I guess there are crazies in every line of work), but I did voice the comment to my husband when I heard about this last night that it does seem like some of the extensive psychological testing that the astronauts go through would have shown something wasn't quite right. :confused3
