I know it's a vague description, but not sure how to describe this. My friend with asthma said it sounds like how she feels...just this "funny feeling", kind of a tightness but nothing drastic. It reminds me of how I'd feel before getting bronchitis but it's been there off and on for months, but now MOSTLY ON. Hate to go to dr. with such a vague symptom!

My asthma feels like trying to breathe through a straw.... try as you might you just can't inhale enough air. I really get no "feeling" down in my chest.

A test my dr. gave me to see if my asthma was acting up and I needed to get in and see him. ..
Breathe in deeply and completely fill your lungs. Now breath out to get all of the air out. If it takes longer to get the air out then in it may likely be asthma. You may sound like a leaking tire towards the end as the air comes out slowly.

If your asthma is acting up really badly it is difficult to breath in and fill your lungs even partly. Do not mess around with it. Go to a dr.

I have allergy induced asthma and I describe it as being very aware of my breathing. Like I have to think about it. Again a very vague description. Also when it gets worse I have a little cough. Good luck at the drs!

I don't have athsma, but I had that same feeling in my chest while I was sick with a cold and it turned out I had walking pneumonia. I'd definitely go see the doctor, just to get it checked out.

On a side note, I don't know how you guys with athsma are able to do so much. Feeling out of breath makes me so tired and lethargic.

Asthma & bronchitis often have the same symptoms, the constriction of airways. I have symptoms sometimes and usually just have a dry cough and seem to have a catch. I've learned to use an inhaler when I have it and usually recover pretty quickly. The dr can listen to you breathe and tell if you are wheezing. If I think my DD is sounding bad I take her in so they can see how much her airways are constricting. Usually they discribe it as being tight.

sounds like maybe anxiety??!! I didnt know what it was when I got it at first.
