Asthma disability pass

We will be in WDW next week ...we'll bring our fire helmets...
DW read on another board that Disney will provide a disability pass for children with Asthma that works similar to fastpass (with a Dr.'s note). We are not sure how long we will last in the parks if the smoke is blowing our way. Does anybody have any details.

I'be been worried ever since I heard that fires were still going on and that the smoke has been bad. My 16 year old daughter gets very ill around any kind of smoke. We planned this trip and made reservations last August. Have to go now because our oldest daughter leaves for the Air Force Academy in late June. We could really use any help to make this trip easier for our daugher with asthma. Leave June 5.

I have not seen a GAC about asthma, but I am sure they don't want people with asthma standing out in the smoke and getting into trouble. Go to Guest Relations in the first park you get to and request one.
The best park for you during the smokey time would probably be EPCOT. Most of the attractions are inside of buildings with the wait inside.

For information about the GAC, click on the link in my signature. I don't know of a special provision for asthma, but it is worth asking them about recommendations for remaining protected from smoke. I would recommend taking a good dust mask or respirator to keep with you just in case... seriously!!! There were fires in Orlando in February when I was there and I could smell smoke in the morning, that was only a bit irritating. But these fires are much closer to WDW now, I would be very careful.

Quite honestly, I have asthma... I have friends who are going to WDW this week, and as much as I would love to go with them, there is no way I could go in conditions like this. But maybe with the rains tomorrow, things will improve.

As much smoke as was sometimes in the air at WDW last week, the buildings for the most part were well ventilated. We were at OKW. Thursday a.m. I thought it was quite foggy outside until I opened the patio door - & quickly shut it again when I realized that in addition to fog it was smokey. We could not smell anything inside out unit. The next day we were at the Studios. The smell began to get to us. We went to the Millionaire attraction, & you couldn't smell any smoke inside the attraction. Good luck to your daughter at the USAFA. Her first year will be tough, but SHE CAN DO IT!

if anyone gets a definitive reply to this question could you please post your experience?

My 13yo DS has severe asthma.
We are going in late August and hoping for the best, but he cannot be outside in smoke without triggering a major episode.

I'm an adult with asthma and I'm leaving Friday. I know that I can't sit around a fireplace because it takes my breath away so now I'm worried about the air at WDW. I hope it rains!

Asked our doctor for a note so our daughter could wait inside buildings out of the smoke. They said they don't write notes for that kind of thing so I guess we'll just try to explain it to guest relations and see if they give her a GAC.

I wounldn't worry about it, ksmom. They don't need a doctor's note to give you a GAC. In fact, they don't really even look at them when people do show them.
If you cna explain the problem your DD will have with waiting out in the smoke, I'm sure they will help you out. I know of some WDW CMs who post on the boards and have asthma, so I am sure they will understand.

Also, if you do get turned down, you can go to Guest Relations later and re-explain your problem. We got a GAC once with a stamped message that really wasn't appropriate for our needs at all. We used it for a day or 2 and then took it back to GR and got one that was more suited for our needs.
