I know this isn't a disABILITY, but I really had no clue where to post it, i'm SO sorry if it's put in the wrong place. I have a two week trip planned at the end of this month (during the flower and garden festival). I have a lot of problems with asthma, and allergies. Does anyone have any suggestions other than limiting my time at Epcot, also any suggestions on how to make the hotel room as allergy friendly as possible? I'm just trying to avoid any potential flare ups at the parks and still be able to breathe. Any advice anyone could give me on this, or personal experiences about the F&G festival with asthma. Thank you so much for taking hte time to read this, hope everyone is having a great day! :wave2:

Bring your own bedding such as pillow if yopu use the allergen protectors. Also rolling down the comforter and staying away from using it they are washed the least. If you do not feel well in the morning I would asked to be put in a new room. Some rooms are worse then others. I would make sure the meds are all topped off and have the address and directions of the celebration hospital on you at all times. Sometimes it is a 911 call sometimes it is a ride in the car so be prepared for either. Call ahead and ask if thre are any rooms with out carpets, ask that they do not spray the carpet while you are there. I am sure there are ;oads of other things but right now I am at a loss. If I come up with anything else I will get back to you. Good luck and have as good of a time as possible.

If you are not staying on site any way you might want to check into the rental homes. I know they have some smaller ones that have tile instead of the carpets. You can always ask about the drapes also some just have a small valence also leather furniture is a good choice. Might be a healthier option for you to breath easier? Our home is no carpets, very few curtains, and leather furniture just for this reason. I feel your pain.

Thanks so much! We're staying on property, but I will be sure to bring my own pillows!!

If you have a mold allergy, make sure you request an upper level for your room. My older DD is very sensitive to mold, and we've had problems with first floor rooms, as it can be very damp at WDW. We've never had a mold problem on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

If you are very sensitive to cigarette smoke, make sure your non-smoking room is not near any of the smoking-allowed rooms. Cigarette smoke triggers my daughter's allergic reactions as well, and we were near a smoking room at AKL. She used to take a 'detour' around that area (I think she just liked to run ahead and explore a bit on her own) and she was fine.

I'm seriously asthmatic and very allergic to most tree and weed pollens, mold, fire ants, and a host of other things. This past Spring I had the worst time of my life--they wanted to hospitalize me, but that wasn't going to happen--I'm too stubborn. :guilty:

I was just at the Flower show a couple weeks ago, no problems at all. Since I began taking Allegra-D every day my allergies are pretty well gone. I've only had one attack requiring medical attention since everything got under control a couple months ago, and I think that a combination of stress, heat, and chemical fog (different from the dry ice fog they use at WDW attractions which is at least for me harmless).

I've stayed at pretty much every resort, on floors ranging from first to fifth, and haven't had problems in any room yet--of course I go through special services to get a non-smoking room, and bring my own pillow.

I'd suggest that you speak to your doctor about giving yourself a prophylactic nebulizer treatment at least once each day while you are there--when I'm doing it prophylactically I use Atrovent but not Albuterol in my neb.

Avoid alcohol and soda--they can both reduce lung capacity and efficiency.

Have a great trip!

Anne

I'm also asthmatic and have tons of allergies. I always bring my own pillows with the dust mite protective cover...I will spray with Febreeze (lightly) and also bring my nebulizer with me, just in case. I'm on various inhalers and Claritin at the present time since I have been breaking out in hives they can't figure out why. I have three food allergies and must say that the Rose & Crown had been the first restaurant to ask if I did have food allergies and would double check with the chef if I inadvertently ordered something that included any of my three positives. I do turn down the comforter since I heard they do not wash them as frequently as I would hope. Fort Wilderness a couple of times is quite dusty and I sort of panic :rolleyes2

I get sinus infections quite easily and have been sick at Disney more than enough times and I've often wondered if it was actually a cold or more allergy related than anything.

If you contact Special (Medical) Reservations after you have made your actual reservation and explain the situations to them they can note this on your reservation and the room will get a special cleaning when the prior guest checks out and they will put on all new or just cleaned linens and pillows, including blankets, pillows and bedspreads. The number is 407-939-7807.

As far as food allergies, have the facted noted on all of your reservations, and remind them when you check in at the podium. In each instance a chef should come out and talk to you. For conter service ask to talk to the manager before ordering, they do have some special foods available at each location.
