Assurance DVC will stay up to par?

We just bought BCV this month. We have stayed there once before on rented points last November and had a lovely time. Had a studio with a view of IllumiNations, room seemed fine...
Getting nervous reading all these negative posts about BCV lately, though!
What is going on there?
Ants, ants, ants...
Furniture in need of attention...
Front desk mishaps with rooms...
Seems many of late have had to complain to BC management...
And BCV is the newest of the DVC properties!

SOOO... What kind of assurance do DVC members have that once the properties are sold out that they will continue to keep up the villa properties in deluxe conditions? Is there anything written anywhere to keep our investments safe? I would think Disney would keep the resorts nice, but if the villas are sold out would they not take care of them like they should?

Just curious...

:D We have been members since inception of the DVC, at OKW, which we really like a lot. The rooms still seem as new as the day we joined. You may occasionaly find a room that is not up to par, but that means it's up for re-hab shortly. We had a room like that once in 12 years. We complained to staff, and they moved us to a new room. Some of the cost of the re-habs is included in your dues.{check your year end statement} If there has ever been something not working or faulty, we just call maintenence, and it's fixed the same day. At least that's been our experience. I don't know whats going on at the BC, but from what i've been hearing, I don't think we will be staying there any time soon. Perhaps they worked to fast to get it open, and there are still a lot of bugs {no pun intended} to be worked out. Although I don't recall those kind of problems when they opened OKW. I would'nt worry though, disney will keep these places up over the long haul.

"Disney" in itself does not take care of the DVC resorts like they take care of their "hotels".
From ny understanding, Our dues pay to keep the resorts in good shape, and for the most part they do, especially considering the amount of use thse places get.

Sure the is going to be "bug" problems, its central florida (though if my wife read the "ant" post i'd be in trouble). DVC resorts are and will be top notch.

I'm the same way. I unfortunately have more motivation to write a negative story than one that is positive. I just completed a three night golf stay with 3 friends and it was one of the best trips! I didn't write about it! OKW was in great condition and if it were not for the vacation club there is no way I could afford to take them and charge nothing for the room. Especially a room that cost + $600 per night. What I'm saying is that the good trips are seldom written about and when they are written about few pay attention! Just look at the number of views to a negative post versus a positive post its not even close! You have made a good choice in purchasing DVC and its unlikely you are going to get the trip with the ants and the sick children. Well maybe just the sick children.

Wait and see, I'll be right!

Please do not worry, DVC will not let the resorts get shabby. Why?

1) Because it's Disney.

2) They do not pay for up keep, we do. DVC has every mpyivation to keep the places fresh, as they just past the cost to us.

3) How would it look to prospective buyers of SSR, if the other resorts were run down and gross?

4) How would it look to non DVC members who pay cash to stay at the resort?

There are likely many more reasons, but these just rolled off the tongue. I truly would not worry...

Maybe 2 more:

The resorts revert back to Disney or DVC in 2042

Many CMs are DVC owners

Last I knew, there were about 70,000 of us in DVC. Now, count every negative post you can find. The result is miniscule, so don't get too excited about negative posts. In 100+ DVC nights, we have never had a negative experience worth talking about--and we've stayed at four of the places. I'm sure there are those who do have problems. I am also sure there are a number of people putting out negative stores because they didn't get 100% of their requests filled...and, by golly, for the money they are paying they should get all their wishes granted. Stood next to one of these characters one time at check in and listened to him rant and rave--and make a fool of himself. I was tempted to ask if he was drunk or always an axxhole; but kept my mouth shut for a change. Anyway, don't be too concerned about the reports. And if you do have a problem report it, and follow up til its taken care of. good luck :smooth:

I stay at all levels of Disney resorts from value to deluxe, to home away from home, to "my" home away from home-- DVC resorts! I can honestly say, I have never been in a Disney resort that was run down or in bad condition. My stays at Disney resorts have consistently been far superior to stays at other resorts outside of the land of the Mouse! Yes, there have been times when we have gotten a room that was due for refurb so the carpet and bedspreads were not brand spanking new, or the lamp over the bed needed a new bulb or (even 2x) we had plumbing problems that were fixed within a few hours, but overall all the Diseny resorts are kept in tip top shape, especially considering the volume of guests they accomondate in the course of a year! They refurb all their resorts on a regular basis and the DVC resorts are certainly included and maintained to a very high standard. I really would not worry about Disney maintaining the DVC resorts up to par, they have done an excellent job so far, I think we can trust them! LOL!

I agree with Maistre Gracey and CaptainMidnight. All very good reasons for DVC to maintain quality.

As to the negatives at Disney. They are not perfect, but they are closer than most organizations and recover better than most as well. Their attention to detail is so superb that any little departure is quite visible.

Our first WDW trip was in 1978. And like DeeP, we have stayed at most of the resorts on property and have experienced a remarkably superior and consistent level of quality over the years (both in physical plant and CMs). I can only think of one time, in all of our trips, that we had something that was not to our liking. And it was resolved so well that I wrote to thank them for how it was handled.

Thanks for all the replies. Just seemed like there has been a lot of complaining going on around here about BCV... ;)
I feel better now,
Thanks!

It seems like every resort has its moments where everyone who goes there seems to have a miserable time. I remember when we first bought into BWV in 1999 reading a ton of posts about nightmare housekeeping experiences over there... we have been "home" 6 times since we bought in and have never even had the inkling of a problem.

I think (as someone else pointed out, just wanted to reiterate) that the biggest guarantee we have against DVC resorts falling apart is the fact that Disney gets the resorts back in 2042. I think their setup is BRILLIANT... they get disney nuts to pay for the construction of the hotel and pay for its maintenance and upkeep for 40-50 years, and guarantee that the rooms will be full and at the end of it they get back a meticulously maintained hotel. Not a bad deal for them and not a bad deal for us either.

Nothing is ever for sure, but some things are safer than others and I consider DVC to be in the "safer than others" category.

I think the really good thing about complaining it that it gets a response. No doubt there are CMs and other DVC people reading these boards, and BCV is probably under a magnifying glass right now. The next few months may be a really great time to go, based on all the recent negatives! They will really be on their toes.

That said, DH & I had a WONDERFUL 5 days at BCV last October, and are planning to add on at BCV next month.
