Associate Member Perks

I think I know the answer to this but... does anyone know if I can get the annual pass discount as an associate member? BF is the actual contract holder and I am an associate on the contract (we have 2 different addresses). Would I be able to order the annual pass for both of us and get the discount?

If your name is on the contract and you can make reservation, I think you can get an AP.
My ex BF and I used to own DVC together and both our names are in the contract and both of us could get AP.

I believe you are correct in that anyone who is listed on the contract will be able to buy the annual pass, but an associate member is not listed on the contract. Or at least that is my case, my daughter is not listed on my contracts, but I do have her listed as an associate member on my membership. She still does live with me and therefore is still entitled to an annual pass.

I added her as an associate member last year, when she began taking trips on her own to WDW and I was not present with my membership card.

I was there when we initially purchased the contract and my name is on the contract but as an associate. We would have put my name as an owner but my credit stinks and I didn't want it to affect the financing. So my name is on the contract but not as an owner. I thought that I could only make reservations... hopefully I am wrong and I can get the discount too

the thing is the address.

if you are living with at the same address as the owner - yes you can get annual passes.

if no - then I was told associate members could not get the annual passes.

see if you get a different answer.
my brother has been an associate member on my contracts for years- and it would be a great benefit for his family.

I emailed member services today so I guess I'm gonna wait and see what they say.

Does anyone know if they ask for ID or anything like that when you pick up the passes?

I wish they would give associate members the same or at least some of the same benefits as owners.

They always ask for ID for adults for AP's, DVC discount or not.

I assume associate members have no financial responsibility for the dues and loan payments (if applicable), so why should they get the benefits.

I received an email back from member services.

I provided them with my name and membership number and wrote "as an associate member am I entitled to the annual pass discount?"

A vacation advisor named Jamie responded: "Yes, you may have the Annual Pass Discount. You will need the club ID number when you pick it up as well as a picture ID.

Have a Magical Day!"


I was thrilled when I got the email however I figured I would just check in with my guide to make sure. He told me that although the contract states that I am not technically entitled to the discount they may give it to me anyway. He advised that I print out the email and bring it with us when we go to pick up the passes so I proof in writing that a DVC vacation advisor told me I can have the discounted passes.

Final word, its really up to the manager at the time we pick up the passes if I get the discount or not. Hopefully they will honor what Jamie emailed me but who knows

My guide also told me that there has been some discussion internally about allowing associate members the same (or at least most) benefits as owners. Just because we are not financially tied to the contract doesn't mean that we shouldn't be allowed the same benefits - otherwise an associate member is basically your secratary - we can make reservations and call for information but we can't share any of the benefits!

Hello everyone! We just got back from SSR yesterday - I love that place And in case anyone is wondering everything went very well Now I'm just working on planning another trip or two (or 3 or 4) within the next year!

Technically associate members have no perks other than being able to talk to MS and schedule reservations and the like. They could get some perks if they schedule a reservation that they are on. I'm sure that many in this situation would get the member card of the true member and present it but that would not be right without making it clear that is what is going on.

I would imagine that if they allowed associate members to receive the DVC AP discount that there could likely be much abuse. I don't recally exactly, but I believe it is rather easy to change associate members on the account. I would imagine it wouldn't be a problem for associate members that lived in the same household, but I could see issues with them granting that for associate members that did not live in the household. I could set up serval family and friends as associate members just so they could get the discount.

Actually, I was concerned that my partner and I would have trouble when we arrived. He is not listed as an associate member, but we do live in the same household. However, according to the discount information for APs we would have to be "registered domestic partners." One major problem with that is that it is illegal in Virginia, not only that, our legislature is taking it one step further to try and make it so any contracts between people of the same sex that might ellude to providing the benefits of marriage would be illegal (ie... we couldn't grant power of attorney to someone of the same sex). Anyway, that's a whole other issue.... I've ordered AP passes for both of us and we'll see what happens when we arrive. We do have our ID's that show our address, so I'm not sure what they would ask for to try and determine if we are "registered domestic partners."

I'm going to take a wild guess and bet you won't have any problem as long as he has an ID with the same address as yours. He could be your stepbrother or brother even with a different last name. I sincerely doubt that they will ask for proof of relationship, but maybe we'll be surprised.
