Our assessed property value went up again, by 17% since last year. This is getting ridiculous, and in my best opinion, a lot of it has to do with our 14 yo house is getting compared to much newer homes, with newer heaters, roofs, granite countertops etc. In addition, many other homes have now added "fixed-up" basements, and not necessarily taken out building permits, so while that increases those house values, it increases mine - although we do not have a fixed up basement.

I do know, that just because the assessment went up - it doesn't necessarily mean taxes go up by 17%.

So - I am curious, has anyone ever filed an Assessment Objection? How did you go about it?

TIA,

Our home was reassessed last year. The assessed value of our house went from $80,000 to $145,000. We followed the directions on the assessment paperwork and called the number. They told us over the phone that they not be any reconsideration, the assessment stood. My mother who lives 3 blocks over was reassessed and when she called they dropped her assessment by $15,000. The only reasone I can think of is because our home was a foreclosure and we got a pretty good deal. I think that is why they stood firm with the reassessment, that would have been the value had it not been in forclosure.

Good luck! It's an ordeal.

Our old house was reassessed and it did indeed go up along with almost all of our neighbors in the area. It nearly takes an act of congress to dispute and assessment so I think you're just going to end up paying the tax based on your home's current value, sorry :guilty:

For us it was a postive b/c we were selling the home soon and we were able to list it at a much higher price b/c of its new tax value

Last year, my entire town was re-assessed...and with a major added addition, our value went from $160,000...all the way to $425,000. I went to complain and fight it, but under the guidelines...we didn't qualify. There were about 150 residents in line to complain with me. But, :thumbsup2 By the end of the year, the town dropped the tax rate in half!

Our town re-assesses every year. In 14 years we've appealed 3 times. Twice we were successful and once lost.
