Hey Everybody

I was just wondering your guys opinion on asking people to vote you best guest or quest or game. I usually feel bad asking people to vote for me. I did start doing it last time I had my quest open which I did a couple times. But I really hadn't done that before.

Do you guys think its okay? Maybe its me that feels strange about asking lol I just figure if they like my room enough they will vote with out me asking lol

nobody can tell you if its right or wrong, its a matter of opinion. I can tell you for sure it turns some people off when they hear it.

Some people indeed would not vote for a room after hearing someone ask them to

Then again some people who wouldnt have bothered voting, would.

Having said that, it only takes one person voting for your room to win. In the end the amount of votes cast for your room are not the determining factor. The votes only get attention to your room. VMK decides the best guestroom winners. Dont think you cant win with 1 vote :thumbsup2

i have noticed some people put it as a task in their quests..... that bothers me. They make the people say " I will vote for blah blah blah for best quest". That takes the meaning out of the quest. Like if my quest is a jungele theme and the entire time my quest has stayed on topic, all of a sudden you have to shout you are going to vote for someone for best whatever? Just takes away the theme of the quest.

I don't mind a friend letting me know they were hoping for a notice for best guest/quest. But I'm not very fond of when people put it in their room description or quest description/task, or especially keep asking anyone that comes into their room continuously.

I wouldn't go straight out there and say:
"Hey, Nominate my room for Best ________ Room!"

I usually use these words:
"If you feel my room is worth it; feel free to nominate it."

I would have to agree with that lol

I dont like when people say it constently or put it in their room description. Also if it was ever put in a quest that would really be a turn off and I wouldn't vote.

When I was asking which was only a couple times people came back after they had compleated my quest and said they liked it so I said if you would like please vote lol but I didn't feel right doing so and probably wouldn't keep doing it.

i will say "If you enjoyed the quest, Please Nominate it for best _______ Room", but i only do it after a few people have commented on it simultaniously

I wouldn't want to vote for a room if the owner even mentions the nomination form..

I'm one of those people who won't nominate a room/game/quest if I am asked or if it's written in the room info. I don't need anyone to remind me to nominate a room I think is worth nominating. I have never asked anyone to nominate any of my rooms, and I did win a BGR, so I don't see the need.
Another pet peeve of mine is getting a pm in game telling me to come see someone's new room, especially if that's the only time I hear from them! Invite me, if you know me. If you don't talk to me otherwise, save your fingers the cramp from typing, I won't stop by.
Just my opinion, of course. :)

Since we are on the topic does

New players are selected weekly in each category depending on number of nominations/submissions

mean the person with the most nominations/submissions win best guest/game/quest, or does it mean they select a person from all of the rooms that were nominated?

It is my belief vmk staff vote the rooms, rooms that are voted for simply get noticed and perhaps reviewed for voting.

Voting definitely plays a part in choosing the winners of the Best Guest Room/Quest rewards. After all, they should be voted on by the people who actually experience them!

They wont base it on popularity. The VMK staff go visit the rooms that are getting votes. You overestimate your fellow human beings LOL.

I think VMK Staff are probably degenerate life forms.

Come on, that's a bit harsh. They try their best to give us a good game! Not trying to lower this thread into an argument about the staff, of course, just wanted to throw in a defense for them.

Anyway, back on topic:

In answer to the original question, I'm not particularly keen on people asking me to vote. If someone has made a very positive comment about your room, such as "this is the best room I've seen in ages!", and you feel it is appropriate, you might suggest that if they wanted, they could vote for it on the homepage. However, I normally avoid all "please vote for my room" threads / room descriptions like the plague !

Obviously, if someone was in your room asking how they vote, it would be silly not to tell them. Similarly, if someone says they're going to vote for you, you're unlikely to say "oh no, you don't need to do that". Basically, go with your gut. If you think the moment is right, feel free to ask, but don't be surprised if you get one or two negative responses to such a request!

I think the best way to get yourself noticed is just to make a great room, and let everyone here know that it's open!

Good luck! :thumbsup2

Not that I ever run these .. but many times I have seen trade rooms and in the description it says - vote for best guest -
Has a trade room ever won a best guest room?

I don't just ask them, but if somebody says my quest is awesome, then I might say "I am glad you like it! You can nominate it for Best Quest if you like."

So don't demand it, but suggest it if the person feels strongly about your quest/room/game.
