DVC Chit Chat Thread

okay, DVC owners let's chat! You regularly go on Disney property so you've probably bought a Disney coffee mug, shirt, etc. Now that you've been several times to Disney, do you even buy merchandise souvenirs anymore?
We just got back from a short trip and didn’t buy any souvenirs. We’ve become more selective about what we bring home over the years. I used to leave room in the suitcase specifically for souvenirs because we bought so much. Something really has to catch my eye now, like my monorail mini tongs or our wooden Mickey he’d we use for charcuterie. Also, I am a sucker for a Disney Christmas ornament!

It is crazy that DLR does not want our money like WDW 🤣
Right?! Instead I am using mobile order for food and buying with GC in person and each time Im told my remaining balance on my GC so I know the damage I am doing.

To top it off often I am alone shopping and DH keeps the cards in his wallet so I cant buy if I wanted to. At WDW I have my payment strapped to my wrist!

I was shocked when on our last trip I didn't buy a single souvenir. Normally I am the one telling my husband to go start the credit card and have it warmed up lol. We have a lot of stuff already, so something has to really speak to me at this point.

We were definitely scaling back on Disney purchases - until DD presented us with a DGD, who's now a toddler and into Disney princesses! And books, lots of books.

The new Disney golden books are amazing. We adore this one so much. It has Disney history. Love it! https://a.co/d/0i7arL3W
If that was supposed to be an amazon link, it goes to some sketch super offers thing instead.

We sat down last night and figured out dining somewhat for upcoming trip in June, long story short we ended up talking ourselves into the DDP, even though Oldest is 11 and we gotta pay for her as an adult, the free kids for other 2 helps do some lifting, figured it was maybe 300ish more than what we would spend normally for what we would eat, so plan to hit more character meals and expensive things than normal. I figured the last time we did the DDP in 2024 would be the last, but here we are.

We are staying at BRV and was gonna do Storybook dining if we didnt go DDP, but since thats 2 TS credits thats not happening, kinda bummed we wont be doing it. Plan to do akershus breakfast and either H&V breakfast or dinner for fantasmic dining package, still got a month to figure out the dining details before 60 days hits.

It has become less common. I need to thin the t-shirt herd, so am on a complete moratorium there (not just at Disney---in general) even though I often see some I like. I could use a coffee mug, but they always seem to be absurdly large. I could use another ball cap, but I never see one I like enough to buy.

I did buy a Peter Millar Riviera golf polo this last trip. With the DVC 20% discount, it was less than ordering a similar polo at retail from PM directly. But that was it, I think.

First world DVC’er problems. Im trying to gather and prepare all my stuff for my taxes. But I keep coming here to see whats happening, keep playing the slots for DVC reservations and I am knee deep in family costume planning for Pirate night on our DCL cruise, which we will use the costumes again for Halloween and now I think I also will have to go to MNSSHP since we will have cool costumes.

I wish I had it in me to do that. But normally I am scrambling on April 12. Starting early this year since we leave for WDW April 10 and I’m going to owe money so I have to get that squared away.

I do, but I have to really want it and know how I'm going to use it. I saw so many videos of the gift shop at Wilderness Lodge and vloggers going on about how great of a gift shop it was. I was sure that I'd want to get a souvenior, but nope. I have no use for anything there. I have way too many Tshirts in general and I wasn't in love with any of the coffee mugs. I did look to see if they had a Pandora Wilderness Lodge charm and they didn't. I just bought food from the shop.

Many times, I'll see a cute handbag or Loungefly backpack and I don't buy them because I already have some and I don't use more than one at a time. I don't even travel with more than one. I do, however, look at as many gift shops as possible in hopes of finding something special.
I'm disciplined. I've got one mug from the Wilderness Lodge that I purchased circa 2015.

Now my wife on the other hand....those Disney Starbucks been there done that mugs are killing me! And I'm the one who drinks coffee.

guessing those who have visited for decades/multi times per year (DVC), have enough impulse sort of souvenirs in tow.

we started picking up artwork & other home decor long ago. something has to really speak to us now to make it into the fold

of course, do try to find a Xmas ornament each year, last year was a 🫤 .

sadly, the general merch selection's quality has declined IMO

conversely, the mr, a non-shopper, has the RSVLT shirt bug, bad lol. large portion of his stash is disney related

he also likes the special alcoholic mugs you can find. pretty sure that was part of the equation being surprised with an upcoming sailing on the Treasure (:hmghost:mugs). works for me

Last trip I let my son buy a cheap gift for his friends. We came home with 5 Donald Duck ducks. $5 each. I was like this is a bargain. Then yesterday at Kohls I find them for $1.49! I don’t like buying souvenirs to later find them at local stores 🫤 I want my souvenirs to be special.

I still buy! Usually a Tervis of some sort, always a new key chain or 2 and a shirt/sweatshirt/spirit jersey. I love the Tervis and keychains since they are something I use on a daily basis.

I am a sucker for a new Tinkerbel Christmas ornament. I also have a large collection of Disney mugs but I only buy the large ones as I drink so much tea. (British to the core)
