I have a lot of nieces and nephews - I am from a big family and most of us have kids. I am asking for good wishes and prayers for my niece Hillary. Hill is a terrific young woman - graduated with honors from Temple University, turned her senior internship into a well-paying managerial position with a popular restraunt chain, bought her own house before she was 25, part time model, extremely friendly and helpful with a great volunteer spirit.
My sister P called last night. Hill was in minor car accident just before Christmas and hit her head - just a bump, really - but the docs did an MRI to make sure there was no damage. Instead they found a tumor in the right frontal lobe. That is the bad news.
The good parts: my oldest sister, L, is married to a very talented and renowned oncologist. He put Hill in touch with a friend of his, probably the best doctor in the Philly area (if not the country) for this kind of situation. The doc believes they discovered this early, and the tumor is small. Hill has opted for surgery, although it has not been scheduled yet. We will know more next week.
The last 12 months have been pretty rough for my family. Mom's health has declined and she is slipping deeper into dementia, we lost our beloved Uncle to a heart attack last March, a niece involved in a very ugly divorce from an abusive husband, the middle of my five sisters is dealing with leukemia, and now the youngest of my sisters is dealing with her oldest child having a brain tumor.
So, if you've got any to spare, please send some positive thoughts, prayers and energy my family's way. Thanks in advance.
