Asking a stranger to take a photo for you?

We've get asked to take someones pic at least 2 or 3 times every trip. We always say yes.

One time is actually very special to me. my sister and I were standing in front of the statue of Mickey and Walt with the castle behind us. My dh was off getting Mickey bars :mickeybar A family asked my sister and I if we'd take their pic and they would take ours. They used my sisters camera to take our picture.

We had paid for my sisters trip. She was living across the country from me and we never got to see each other. She was having a rough time. I was 3 months pregnant at the time.

Christmas came and I had forgotten about the pic. For christmas my sister sent me a framed pic of us sitting on the ledge in front of the statue with the castle in the background. I love love love that pic.

when I see couples or families taking pictures of one another I ask quite often if they want me to take a picture of them so they can be included as well. I hate having my picture taken so I'm just taking photos of my view...its fun to help!!!

You can ask ANY CM (providing they aren't carrying the infamous white piece of paper) to do it, and from our experience, are happy to oblige.

Heck, DH wanted a photo of the family as we were leaving MK on our last day. He said, this looks like a good spot and stopped. The ONLY person around was a super sweet young lady manning a snack cart. We asked and she smiled a huge smile (I'm thinking she was getting kinda lonely in that spot...) and took our picture.

We've asked other non-PP CMs to help too, and we were always greeted with a smile and an "of course!"

Can you afford to do Photopass?

I bought a few of the photopass pictures for our Disneymoon because I basically had to, so I could have pictures of the both of us on our honeymoon. I wouldn't have bought them if it was not that reason. I bought the cd and ordered pictures from costco, because I wanted to put those pictures on Facebook and also have some to hang up.

DH said never again because it was way too expensive for us.

Just a couple of photopass tips: do ask a number of Photopass CMs because some shots will come out much better than others.
And the Photopass calendar is a great way to get 12+ picture prints for just
$29.95, on some pages you can even have 2 photos.

I get asked a lot. I always say, "Do I have to do anything other than press a button?" Then they show me which button to press.

Never had anyone with a complicated camera ask me to do it!

I never mind. Pictures are important. I get that. And it's like one minute out of my life.

On the lists of whups, this goes on the Itty Bitty one.

My husband and I are photo freaks as I call it. I love them, love taking them and love looking at them to remember moments in our lives. So we certainly love to help make other people's trip special by offering to take their pictures.

On our last trip we found quite often if people saw us posing the kids and switching back and forth so we could be in it with the kids they would stop and ask if we wanted a family shot. These shots are my favorite and it makes the trip more magical to me when a complete stranger offers to take a shot.

At breakfast one morning we had a deal with the table next to us, they would take our pics then my husband took theirs. It worked out perfectly and my husband got to play with someone elses camera so he loved it.

Last story I know I'm clogging this with me moments I just get gushy thinking about kindness of others. My husband proposed to me on the Riverboat in the MK. He asked a nice man to take a family picture and shocked us all with his proposal. The man actually thanked my husband for asking him to share in that special moment in our lives. Then he went to the captain and told him we just got engaged on the boat, so the captain made an annoucement congratulating us as we dis embarked.

All this to say I hope you have a very magical trip and encounter the type of awesome people that we did. Don't be shy to ask, and pass the love on. We started making it a habit to offer to take group shots for people.

I don't mind being asked! I usually take 2 or 3 pictures at one time for whoever asks, just in case 1 doesn't turn out. :)

I've taken numerous pictures for other people and they in return have taken pictures for us.....I haven't come across anyone that wasn't willing to help out....just ask

My next trip (next week) I'll be solo for a day, so I intend to ask CM to take pictures of me...

whenever we stop to take a picture there are usually plenty of people also stopped to take pictures. We either ask the other group like the OP does if they would like US to take them and they they generally reciprocate. Even if the other family doesn't speak english (which seems to happen to me all the time) they always understand what we're saying. family pictures are important in every language. lol.

It is awkward sometimes asking. But I do it a few times anyway because we always end up with pictures of DS and me but mostly DH and DS since I'm always the one snapping away. We always get asked by others to take pictures. We NEVER say no. You know what its like to have a great vacation and end up with most pics of not quite all the members of the family.

I always ask a smaller family or a couple because they are in same boat as us. Needing someone to take a picture of the whole group. And yes like other posters said, the Disney photographers are always willing to take family photos on your camera.

The more you ask, the easier it gets. Comes with practice. I'm less shy about it now but its' still awkward, but I never regret asking when I come home and see those pictures. It's worth working up a little nerve to ask. Happy asking!

I have to ask, what is the infamous white piece of paper? :confused3 Inquiring minds want to know.

I get asked that fairly frequently at WDW and I don't mind at all. Of course, for whatever reason, I also get mistaken for a salesperson in stores (I have NO idea why!) and have been approached in unusual circumstances - once a little preschool girl came up to me in the grocery store and struck up a conversation and was chatting me up for what I thought was quite a while, the whole time terror rising in my chest wondering where her parent was, and once at HHI we were sitting outside at a restaurant midday, and a server (not ours) came over out of the blue and asked me to pray with her because she was having some really difficult times with her roommates. :confused3 So I just take these things as they come anymore. :goodvibes

A funny aside to the little girl in the grocery store incident - I was in the produce section, which is fairly open, and there were others around me who I noticed became more & more interested in the situation between me & this little girl, and after her parent didn't come & didn't come I finally said, "And where is your mother?" and almost simultaneously she came tearing around the corner saying "Here I am!" At that point, everyone in the area let out a collective sigh of relief. Literally! Apparently we had been holding our breath as a group. :grouphug:

So yes, ask and don't worry a bit. Unless someone is obviously in a hurry, almost anyone will oblige I would think.

I often ask if I see someone taking a picture with one of them in it if they want me to take one.
my dh is always telling me to mind my own business but i love taking photos and if I can help them get a great memory even better!

We are a couple as well travelling to WDW and frequently people offer to take our picture. When they see me or DBF taking a picture of one of us they suggest to take a picture of both. I've also been asked to take pictures for people and I really don't mind at all, in fact I am always happy too.:)

I am asked all the time as well as I offer when I see a family "in need"!

I love taking pictures for Disney Family's!

Just make sure you say "please." I get asked all the time, and I generally oblige. But it always annoys me when someone just says, "Will you take our picture?" The "please" makes all the difference, when you are asking me to stop my day to help you out.

I agree with Photopass, that is the only way that DH and I both can get into a picture with our girls. It doesn't cost a thing to have a picture taken by one of the photographers, however when you get home and you want to order a picture, that is when it will cost you....unless you preorder it. There is a special link for $50 off to preorder the CD, not sure if someone had already posted it or not, haven't read through all of the pages....if no one has, let me know and I will send it over :goodvibes.

I also wouldn't worry about asking people to take your pictures either, most everyone that go to Disney is in such a happy mood that they are more than welcome to take the pictures for you when you ask. My DH loves to go up to couples or families and ask if they would like for him to take their pictures. You said you are going in January? We will be back there then too....if a guy walks up to you two and asks if you want him to take your picture, then it will more than likely be my DH :goodvibes...oh yeah, we will be sporting a Lime Green Mickey head on our backpack so you know we will be DIS members :thumbsup2

I too am a photographer and don't mind at all (unless I'm in a hurry) to take someone else's photo. Often I will be the one to offer up, especially when I see people split up in order to get at least one person in a shot.

My suggestion for you is one, look for someone with a nice camera. They will most likely be willing to take your photo and I would imagine, the least likely person to run off with your camera (but then again, you never know). And two, just ask someone nearby-you never know unless you ask!

I think at WDW that is a common courtesy and most people will never hesitate to help you out.

As a public service though I should post a pic of my DH so everyone knows not to ask him. He is the nicest guy you will ever meet, but he can't take a picture to save his life. Most pictures we have that he took look like we have had an unfortunate run in with the Queen of Hearts -"Off with their heads" :rotfl:
