Asking a stranger to take a photo for you?

I would also recommend buying a gorilla pod before your trip.

This little gadget helped us take so many family phots last trip that when i was scrapbooking last weekend my friend commented on how many shots we had together. I have a simple little point and shoot camers. I would wrap it around a fence or position it somewhere, get my family positioned, and then set the timer and hop in the picture. It is very light and compact and worked really well. It is on my "must have" list whenever we go somehwere now and will have the opportunity to take family photos.Wow I have never heard of this. I will definitely be buying this for our trip! Thanks!

here is one taken while the gorilla pod was on a jeep in the boneyard in AK-you can see I popped in after it was ready to go.

The other nice thing is that if you are doing the "self shots" where you hold the camera you can set the timer and hold the handle so the shot is a wee bit further back. The little colored bands around the legs are rubbery so they allowed the pod to hold better. We wrapped it around banisters and even our stroller handle to get some shots, LOL. Best $20 I think we have spent on a gadget!!

I have found that when DW and myself are doing the self pic thing where you hold the camera as far out as you can with one hand that there is usually at least one person that will stop and offer to take pic. I usually then offer to take one of them with their camera in return if they want.

As for the photopass photographers I will suggest even if you preorder the cd to have a pic taken with your camera also. Seems like at least once on our previous 2 pics when we got home and logged on to look at our photopass pics there was at least one of ours with a character missing and last time had a couple pics of someone else on our card. Don't know if it was glitch when they scanned the card or what. If we wouldn't have had pic taken with our camera also DW woulda been heartbroken.

Of course, Photopass photographers will ALWAYS be more than happy to take pictures for you. It is actually their policy that they must take a picture with someone's own camera if they request it. We've never had one that had a problem about it, so that's irrelevant anyway.

The only problem with Photopass is that you won't get too many unique pictures. They very rarely are anywhere other than the typical photo spots, especially in less crowded times of the year.

I have a rather complex DSLR, and I have no problem going up to somebody and asking them to take a picture. The only problem is that the people rarely know how to operate the camera, so the pictures very rarely come out in focus at all (Nobody's fault...it's just the way it is haha) But don't be shy! Most people I've seen are more than happy to help out. Another way to make it easier is if you come across someone who is taking a picture and you offer to trade picture-taking with them. It makes it a lot less awkward! =)

Had no problem whenever we visited getting someone to take our pictures. Actually found that if we located a spot for a picture, if I took the camera from around my neck and just looked around, somebody always asked, "Would you like me to take your picture?". Worked everytime! We usually got a swap going, where they took our picture and then I took their picture. Met several people, and found out where some of them were from in the process.

We took our daughter, who was four at the time, and had her dressed up at the Boutique for her birthday. People offered to take our picture left and right without us even asking.

CMs are very helpful, and plentiful too.

Trust me, it will not be a problem at all. Just be nice, that's all there is to it!
