Have you seen the number of political threads that turn downright nasty? I stay out of those (basically because I know nothing about politics ) but those ones always shock me that they don't get locked.

Those can get nasty. I talked a little about the political threads earlier. It seems that the same people argue about the same things over and over and over and over... We lock a LOT of them.

it took me 16 pages to even get up the courage to post to THIS thread!

I love a good debate, but a lot here just scares me because I know that I won't be able to keep my opinion to myself. I have a difficult enough time being 'neutral' on issues like Transportation, so I avoid anything overly emotional on this website.... or I would be handed points very quickly!

Yeah, many debates develop into arguments. Not a good thing.

Recently there have been some not so family friendly ads on this page. What's going on with that? Don't get me wrong I'm not the naughty police and sometimes cross the line myself. However I must admit I do find the ads a bit ...do as I say not as I do.

Sometimes though enough is enough. People that argue just for the sake of arguing, even though everyone tells them they are wrong should get points soley on the basis for driving people nuts!

Who determines when a post should be moved to another board. For instance when poster comes to the CB board and tell us about their trip and posts numerous photos. Shouldn't that be on the trip report board or photography board?

The moderators of each forum decide if a thread there is appropriate/on-topic for their forum or not. If not, they can either move the thread or close it and explain to the poster why.

The Photography board is really to discuss photography, equipment, taking photographs, etc., not a place to put trip reports with vacation photos. It's more for the "I took this photo of Cinderella, and used the XYZ lens on XX setting to get the sparkles just right", or a "How do I get these photos to come out better?" stuff. More a techy approach than a vacation photo sharing place.

One last question - does the reading audience think that posters like me who chose to never have a signature are chronically in the dog house and have a lot of active points, and therefore no signature??? Sometimes I feel like I am wearing a scarlet letter when really I just want to remain plain and anonymous

(I really do try and be good, even when certain people are trying to lure me over to the Community Board..... )

How much control does Dreams Unlimited have over posting guidelines on the DIS? Lately I have noticed an uptick in censorship regarding informative websites and posts that have tangential relationships with competing travel agencies. I understand the need to make sponsors happy, but some of the recent censorship seems excessive and extreme.

Without knowing specifics, it's a little hard to answer this. But Dreams Unlimited is the sponsor for the DISboards, and it's no secret that Pete owns the DISboards and is part owner of Dreams.

That said, Dreams Unlimited does not set policies for the DISboards. We do try to keep the businesses separate.

Other than banner ads, we don't spam DISboards posts with pro-Dreams Unlimited propaganda. You won't see Dreams agents posting ads and spam. You may see them answering questions and helping posters, and they might talk about their affiliation with Dreams Unlimited.

We don't permit other agencies to advertise or to solicit business (no advertising is a site-wide rule), and there are a number of travel agents and agencies who have spammed us and advertised enough here to earn a place in our word filter. Basically everyone I've heard talk about you thinks that you're naughty. Afterall, you don't have a signature AND you associate with me.

These are a challenge to handle, as they tend to never actually step over the lines themselves, but seem to enjoy starting the drama and then sitting back to watch the fireworks. We have banned a few people over the years for this behavior when it became really disruptive, simple telling them that the DISboards is really not a good fit with their posting style.

Thank you for that frank answer. You seem to have summed up well what we see occassionally. And yes, the OP in those cases doesn't really cross a line, but the post and subsequent posts can be so outrageous that the responders find themselves with points, even if they tried to be on the side of all that is good and true....
