The only reason why we aren't seeing many infections in Africa and India is that there's not a lot of testing. I truly do fear for the inhabitants of those two continents. I truly do.

The only worry is that guy in Sarasota at Doctor's Hospital. He was there for a while before they realized what he had. I'm sure they're testing everyone who was in contact with him but there's always the danger that they missed someone, or that staff got infected. One of those two things is probably what set off the epidemic in Seattle.

That's right up there with the idiot (I have some choice stronger words, but I'll get in trouble) in New Hampshire. He tested positive, was told to quarentine at home, and instead, decided to go party it up in Vermont that weekend. He's infected at least one other, and the other people at the party are being observed now.

Yes there is still community spread. But 14 more people with illness requiring hospitalization and unknown source of contact would be a lot more concerning.

I’m sure that this has community spread in most major cities in the US.

That's right up there with the idiot (I have some choice stronger words, but I'll get in trouble) in New Hampshire. He tested positive, was told to quarentine at home, and instead, decided to go party it up in Vermont that weekend. He's infected at least one other, and the other people at the party are being observed now.

I'm not defending his actions, but I do believe he didn't get the test results until Monday, 3 days after the party. He was told to stay home while waiting for the results and didn't, still stupid.

The stats for Italy are looking worse by the day. I think that the healthcare system in some parts of the country is overwhelmed, the number of people at home vs. in the hospital has really dropped which I think means they can't keep up with testing/home quarantine anymore, so they're missing the mild cases. This is also probably affecting the CFR.

But what concerns me is that of the people already in the hospital, the percent who need ICU care is very high. About 20%. I do know that Italy's average age is almost 10 years older than the US, but it's still heartbreaking. God bless them all.

Right, and I saw that UNC put Florida on the travel ban list for employee travel, along with WA, CA and all the foreign countries with outbreaks. But left off NY? I mean, they have FAR more cases, most with community spread. It makes no sense. Why pick on Florida?

Today total cases in Italy are 3296. In Lombardy there are 2251, of these 1169 are in hospital 244 in icu, 364 are at home in quarantine, 376 have recovered and 98 have died.

There are currently two newborns positive with the virus but their condition isn't bad. They are hiring alot of new doctors and they are transforming the theatre recovery rooms in icu. They said that alot of these patients have a really compromised breathing situation.

That's good. Eventually a lot of hospitals will turn their ORs and recovery rooms into ICUs and hi-acuity care units. A lot of elective surgery is going to get put off, both there and here, IMHO.

And it looks like they've noticed that heart disease and hypertension really predisposes people to more severe disease. Which is something that's unusual for a respiratory virus. but might be related to the ACE2 receptors that they bind to.

Italy really is giving the rest of the world some very valuable information so everyone else can prepare.I did see a notice to doctors (In English) to tell them to get ready for lot of really critically ill patients. That must have been aimed at everyone else!

They said that they are also talking with some NGO's so to get more doctors and nurses in. I'm truly quite amazed at how much staff this situation is requiring.

One thing that was really concerning is the mark up that face masks and medical protective gear companies are putting on these products even at a government level 10 fold the usual price, and they are also really hard to get. I can't believe people doing this at this difficult time!
