It beyond sad. The hackers hurt more then they helped.

They are now saying it was an inside job.

Inside job was my first thought when I heard they made $19 mil to erase customer records for a fee. I still say it would be in character for people who operate that business to decide to go out with a very large fire sale.

Ok I should clarify that I meant passwords for things that had items like credit card info. My password for my "private" team for a race I'll do in a few weeks is "Password" but even if I told you the event and team name all you could do with that information is sign up for my team... So not something I was worried about protecting. The password for my account for the race is much better, because I put in a credit card to pay the race fee.

Oh, I realize that.....I support strong passwords for sites containing sensitive information. It just struck me as ridiculous that a store's rewards program would require such a convoluted password.

The organizations publishing the hacked information are no different than fencing operations that deal in stolen goods. This act of terrorism should be punished not celebrated. If none of this information was made easily searchable or published by news organizations, these terrorist hacking organizations would stop as there would be no attention. The vast majority of people do not surf with TOR or spend time in the Deep/Dark Web. I am not supporting cheating, but what if this was medical records of everyone with an STD or music listening records of anyone who had downloaded or streamed Nickelback?

This is how I found it. I heard on the news last night that a list for the my county and a couple of others around me had been published so out of curiosity I googled it. What I got was several hits for a site called Fairfax Underground which is a forum mainly for and about Fairfax County, VA. Someone who calls themself Mrs. Snowden posted the lists. I have no idea how to find any other consolidated lists. This one had name, address, city, state, zip code and email address and was sorted by zip code.

I feel for the families affected. I knew my DH would never do anything like that, but not everyone has the same commitment/relationship we do. DH and I discussed this site and it's so far removed from an "oops" affair or even how a lot get started, as friendships. It takes forethought and planning and intent, all which for me would be deal breakers. I do think the fallout is going to be pretty dramatic and think about it, every time you hear about a divorce in the next year or so, this site will come to mind.

Why would anyone check a friend or family member's e-mail address? Geez, I'm nosy, but I'm just not interested in anybody else's sex life.

And some of the "helpful" sites advertised to let you check if an email has been associated with Assley Madison are actually just gathering email addresses for the purpose of spamming them.

There is a birth control that women take to not get pregnant. I know they give it to the men in prison. He is probably getting the therapy now that he needs and didn't get when he was 14/15. I think someone posted a few posts back, "how Josh better be watched for suicide. Just sad, way to sad. Good to hear Anna is also getting some help-I hope she is, and they are not lying.
