The lip synching part...

A friend of ours in the music business told me that often the artist has to lip synch due to copyright laws but I have no idea if that is the case here or not. I know Ashlee Simpson writes some of her own music but if she penned this song, who knows?

I don't care for her myself but my DD 17 likes her as expected!

She certainly wasn't very professional in this instance though IMO..

KUDOS to the band!!! Thanks for the link. I saw her sing her first set, I think? She has alot to learn and will have a hard time living that one down.

I didn't refer to her as an Artist....merely stating who the laws pertain to in general.

We may not like her, but in an Industry largely driven and supported by the Teen population....she is one of many laughing all the way to the bank!

I tuned in just moments before this happened, so I did not see her "perform" her first song.

I swear, that was actually painful to watch.

First, she was dancing like, well, I don't know....I've never seen dancing like that before. It reminded me of the Seinfeld episode where they were embarassed of Elaine's dancing.

Second, shame on her for blaming the band. They seemed to be the only ones with any talent on the stage.

minnie56-- I'm sorry if you thought my post was directed at you, but I promise that I was not referring to any one poster when I put artist in quotations...I meant that it was sad that society views her as an artist...sorry for the confusion.

And being a teen myself (15), I know she doesn't appeal to me at all...nor some of my other friends, thankfully. Although I am especially critical of her situation because my main hobby is singing and I hear better singers than her every day. I think there is something wrong with that picture.

Ok, she was planning to lip synch. Maybe most performers do, I don't know. But to me, wouldn't the professional thing have been to try to sing the song? The band was playing, instead of acting like "oh well, the song is messed up" and taking off- she could've tried to sing. The fact that she didn't was unprofessional (no, I'm not surprised) and certainly makes it appear that the girl can't sing at all (otherwise, wouldn't she?).

I called her a liar in the original post because she gave an interview with Lucky Magazine and they asked her this question:

LM: What are your takes on lip-synching?

AS: I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me.

If you've ever watched her reality show you could see she had no talant when it came to singing. That was her parents that I think forced her to start singing. They wanted another Jessica so they could make more money. If anything they should take a big look at themselves for promoting someone they knew could not sing. The father is her manger.

Mariamouse...I just wanted to clarify too that I wasn't accrediting her with being an 'Artist' either!

I frankly don't care for the Newlywed show with her sister either...but again, that is making them even more $$$ Go figure...I keep telling my hubby to let his pants hang way down and just whine (his kind of singing) and maybe he'll make us millionaires! There's no accounting for taste anymore seems to me....

I don't like Ashlee and I am REALLY tired of hearing that SONG being played on the radio 15 times a day! Maybe this incident will help that

I don't like her sister either. I just think that she is overrated.

Just watched the clip- Ouch! Whether you like her or not, that would be AWFUL to have happen to you on a show that so many people watch! Not sure what was up with the dancing!

I watched the clip on the link posted & couldn't really tell much about the singing....however, that dancing!?!? Can you really call it that??

Personally, her "abilities" do nothing for me - either singing or acting....if you can call it that. And as for her sister, she always looks pained when I see her singing.

But then I'm an old fogey.
