Looks like I’m going to check out local churches websites and find out who’s hosting fish and chip fundraisers (catered by a great fish and chip restaurant) and mark my calendar!

You ask about Ash Wednesday every year like it’s a festive holiday. And you have been reminded it isn’t. For those who observe, it isn’t a feast. Most people fast and abstain from meat. And then have meatless Fridays during Lent.

Ash Wednesday isn't festive. But the day before it is. It is the last day of Carnivale. aka Mardi Gras. And on that Tuesday, (and to an extent during the season, one feasts before the fast. Pancakes are a popular meal. So are sweets of all kinds (commonly an item given up once lent starts.

@slo, I hope the recipes I have posted so far will help with your DH’s diet. I would suggest getting an enameled paella pan from a home goods store like Bed Bath and Beyond. They are very versatile and help cook not only healthy paella but fish dishes as well (among many other recipes).

Lent is a festive season. Besides Advent/Christmas, Lent/Easter is the other festive season (it is just celebrated differently). Ordinary time is what the season is called outside of those two. Not trying to bring religion in at all but just wanted to have the information be correct. Okay back to the recipes.

Some churches name more liturgical seasons than others. Some name them differently. Some don't even have them at all. Assuming that your church's way is the correct information and others aren't isn't really going to get you anywhere.

I wouldn't say Lent is festive. You observe it, you don't celebrate it. Easter is festive, the feast after 40 days of fast and abstinence.

I’m saying that from my faith’s perspective. There’s a more detailed answer to your statement but I don’t think I could respond to it without breaking rules.

The term festive was being used differently than its’ common meaning. It’s technically a holy season and that’s how I was trying to use it. I’m trying to not break the rules about religion, so I hope I answered your question about my post.

Yes - thank you very much! 🙂

Shrimp taco (or monkfish which holds its shape)
street taco rounds
baja fish taco seasoning or whatever taco flavoring you like
fresh cut up or frozen garlic cubes
bag or sliced cabbage or lettuce
a sauce for on top, we really like sriracha blended with sour cream but many sauces in the market to choose
salsa if you like it
hot sauce if you like it
Bag of frozen tailless and shelled shrimp

-defrost shrimp in cold water as I get the above organized, usually doesn't take too long
-drop shrimp into boiling water briefly, I want it pink but not coiling, recipes say drop into hot skillet raw but I am not interested in entertaining food poisoning so I make sure it is cooked - do as you see fit - fish it out and into a collander to drain
oil in a pan and saute the taco seasoning with some cut up garlic
drop in the shrimp and mix them up until they heat through, should be zero gray and pink when done
Remove from heat and drop into a bowl
Make the tacos

Feeling less is more:

Potatoes and eggs alone or in a sandwich or roll is amazing. We microwave the potatoes then saute until crispy then drop scrambled eggs on top, it is simple but it is also yum with ketchup, salsa or butter.

Onions and peppers and eggs alone or in a sandwich or roll. Same thing but faster since the onions and peppers come frozen now and fairly inexpensively. Saute until all is crispy then drop the scrambled eggs into it.

Quiche with a frozen pie crust or a frittata without the bread, if you go frittata you can make mini ones with silicone trays (I got some valentine ones to do the starbucks egg things) so everyone has one and they are great for breakfast.
About 10 eggs, around 1/2 cup ricotta & around 1/2 cup milk & add whatever you have on hand like an omlette. Bake 30-40 min, I wing it & keep an eye on it but I'm sure there are more exact recipes.

Falafel with Tzatziki sauce, trader joe & wegmans Tzatziki are our favorites, buy or make the falafel then put in a pita bread round with cucumber and tomato.

Have a peaceful Lent everyone
