We want to watch the fireworks at the Poly one night. We are staying at an All Star. Getting there will not be a problem, we'll be out early in the evening for dinner, but we're worried about getting back. Also, how late do the buses go from DTD to the resorts usually? We are all night owls

I would just take the boat back across the Lagoon and get the bus back to AS. Have done it many times.

Alternately I have taken the monorail over to Epcot (just cause its fun) and then taken the bus from there.

The buses from DTD go til 2 AM so you could also take the bus from the Poly there and spend some time there (stores close at 11 though) and then get a bus back. I would not do that unless you actually wanted to spend some time at DTD that late. The buses to and from there are often long and sometimes few between.
