As God as my witness.I'll never be sick at Disney World again~~~wrapping things up...

I am very sorry to hear about your troubles with your father, I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you. Stay strong and stick to your guns, it will be worth it to you and hopefully him in the end. Love the latest update!! I hate to say it but my mom would have done the same with the sprite and the extra bottles, but she does not have a MBOC!! Can't wait to read more.

I can't believe your mil and the sprite. And that bag! You are a saint for having to deal with her. I unfortunately can relate. My mil has issues with throwing out food. We were at a restaurant in Logan UT and my mil didn't want me to throw away the rest of MY breakfast taco meal (eggs, cheese, bacon and beans). She hauled that in my car several hours to Boise, left it on the counter all day and overnight, and ate it the next morning. She then could not understand why she had the runs. To be honest, with them I think it is a thing from the great depression, her mom (in her 90's) will not throw anything out, especially food and clothing/linens. When they moved, we found receipts dating back to 1945, no kidding.

My dh wants to do a set up like you all have. Us upstairs and mil/gmil in the basement apartment. I want to run screaming :scared1: . Her home is for sale and if it sells, I have to make a decision. Advice please!

You are sooo patient. :worship: I would have lost it with someone like your MIL a long time ago. ;)

I totally agree about the turkey legs. I can't even eat chicken wings. :rolleyes1

:Can't wait for the next update--the title sounds great! :rotfl:
does anyone want to place bets on how long till the next update?;)

Turkey legs? Yum! Poor winkers, I know what is to have an aversion to some food (mostly seafood for me) but turkey legs are heavenly tasty.

I don't do dark meat....just imagining those things makes me want to hurl.

I can just see your MIL filling up those bottles, I bet she was thinking that she was glad she'd kept those empties as she knew they'd come in handy eventually :rotfl:
you wouldn't believe the things that woman keeps because she might use it sometime in the next 100 years.
I cleaned out her freezer once and she had jam in there from the year I was born.

Did you have a hot dog or corn dog nuggets?

MIL-really what can you do? I mean the woman lives with you. My grandma lived with us for several years. My mom said her MIL living with us was God's way of teaching my mom patience, forgiveness and love. My mom's a saint.

How did your family respond when you got spotlighted?
I don't remember....but I like them both.

I love your mom! Luckily dh isn't a momma's boy or I'd really go crazy. Actually she gets on his nerves more than mine. I think I'm learning patience either that or it's a test to see how much I can take before I snap.

They all laughed. I'm sure I looked a little dazed and confused.

I am really sorry about everything that you are dealing with. I can sort of relate to your situation because not even a year ago my DH's parents got a divorce. But they didn't just get a divorce, one day his dad got upset- they were arguing and and just disappeared for like 3 days. The only way that they found him is because they called his work- and they said he was working. Long story short- basically he was cheating on her and just had enough because they fought all the time and left. He left 3 young kids to DH's mom who is a train wreck. At first I felt really bad for her, and couldn't imagine dealing with that. She doesn't have a job, she lost her house, now they live in this trailer, she is only a secretary for her church and doesn't make a lot of money. She practically raises the kids on her own. ONLY, she doesn't do much to raise them. At first, she was taking anxiety and depression meds.. and then she decided to overdose on them- and she constantly takes double and was always drugged up. She lost tons of weight and went from size 10 to size 1-3 in pants. she doesn't eat good.. and now she doesn't take much pills cause she says she doesn't want to live like that but now she drinks all the time. So she's always drinking, drugged up, or sleeping. Which she sleeps alll the time. DH will call in the middle of the day and she will be sleeping and say "Is it morning?" And its the afternoon- and he always says "what are the kids doing?". It's like as time goes by she gets a little better- but while shes wasitng her life away- her kids are raising themselves and also dealing with this. It's really hard to deal with- so I understand. My aspect is mostly feeling sad for the kids but I hope that things get better. I will keep you in my heart.

As for the TR update- MIL is probably one of those elderly people who feels that since shes old- people should cater to her all the time- even over the kids I guess. hehe I like the picture with the fairy god mother.. its great. i haven't seen her in a while. I've also never ate at Casey's. The BIG pop thing is great- my DH would love that. We are wasters as well I suppose. hehe
Wow! That's quite a story. thanks for sharing that, it made me realize things could be alot worse.

It has nothing to do with her age...she's always been that way. Actually, once I got to know her mother it was easy to see why she is the way she is.

On your mother-in-law, I think they make meds that she should be taking. I'm thinking the ones Jack Nicholason's character was taking in "As Good as it Gets". You really are a saint for dealing with her.
:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Cherie, I'm sorry for what you're dealing with. It is so hard to make those decisions, but you did the right thing for your family, and for you. I hope your father realizes what he's doing and shapes up. Hugs and prayers for you.
thanks!

Your mil sounds like my friends grandmother who lived with her while they were growing up. I would go over to visit and she used to say the meanest stuff not only to my friends mom but also to us kids. They finally had to put her in a home because she tried to burn the house down because she didn't want to live there anymore.
 yikes! That actually made me laugh a little....the burning the house down sounds like something from the movie vacation.

 Wow. I think I am speechless.

:rotfl:

Oh Man!!! She kept the sprite in her MBOC?? :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: I can't believe she kept it all the way until home. You and D.Jay were not lying when you said how big that bag is!
I wouldn't dare put my hand in there for fear of what I'd find.

maybe your mom and MIL should be pen pals!

She's too young to have lived durring the depression...she's just really cheap. I could write a book about the gifts she gives...my favorite was a face massager to get rid or wrinkles and freckles.....it looked suspiciously like something else...:scared1:

If d.jay and I didn't have a strong marriage, it would be a disaster having her live here. It does have it's good sides, sometimes they're easier to pin point than others.

me neither! :scared:

We laugh about it now. The first time she tried she put her house coat on the electric heater and it caught fire. They thought she just made a mistake even though she said she did on purpose. The next time she actually started a fire in the garage. It was really sad. She died about 1 week after they put her in the home.

Oh Cherie, I have fallen terribly behind in your trip report. It's tough being part of the sandwich generation....
All you can do is what you think is best for your sanity and for your children.

I am the only one of 5 siblings living near my mother who has the beginning stages of Alzheimer's.
I had to put her in a memory care facility. She is unhappy, and of course it's all my fault. My sisters are supportive but my brothers are critical. I also have a niece that sees her a couple of times a year and she is critical of me. Let's just say it sucks.....
All we can do is the best we can do.....

Now I have to comment on the MBOC.....
Does she pull that thing around in a wagon?

I'm sorry about your mom. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease. My grandpa had it for along time, they think it started in his late 40's and he lived to almost eighty. My grandma kept him at home as long as she could but put him im a nursing home. When she did some of her own children were upset about it. Yet none of them volunteered to take over.
Luckily my sibblings all agree with me but they don't quite understand how hard it is because they all live 11 hours away.

Maybe I should get MIL a little red wagon for christmas!

The jam your MIL had cracks me up...several years ago after DH and I were married (luckily I was preggers with the 1st kid)....my MIL went downstairs to get ice cream after dinner. She came back with ice cream and some strawberry jam....She offered it for the ice cream. I was not feeling good 9morning sickness) and declined the food. Come to find out the jam was from when my DH was born....he was 34 when this happened.:eek:

She has a stomach of steel....I do not. I now watch very closely to everything she offers before I eat. I was shocked and still am....she eats food that is left out for hours and hours. Ugh it makes my stomach hurt just remembering this!

so, did your dh eat the jam?

I think the limit on how old food is before it's thrown out is a generational thing. MIL will use drippings from 2 nights ago for gravy.:scared:

My grandparents would leave mayo out all the time...as in never refrigerated. I've just learned to say an extra prayer before I put anything in my mouth.

The time had finally come for the adr I was most excited about. We had a date with Cindy and her wicked step-mother to find a wife for Evan. Since the first time I saw the step-sisters in a tr, I knew I had to take my boys to meet them....especialy Evan.

We hopped on the mono rail and found ourselves at the Grand Floridian.
Be still my heart!

If money were no issue, this is were I would stay....this place is so "me". But since live in the real world, right now it isn't an option for us.
So I walk in feeling like the Beverly Hillbillies going to the city for the first time.

I'm always kinda surprised that I get past the entrance without being tackled and tazerd , therefor having my own "don't taze me bro!" moment.

There aren't words to describe how much I love the decor there. It's what heaven looks like to me. I'm hoping that D.Jay and I can stay there for our 20th anniversary...in 3 short years.

if only my living room were big enough for this...

I really could sit in this loby for hours and be quite content...but alas our date at 1900 Park Faire was calling to me.

I had high hopes for the step sisters embarassing the pants off Evan. Isn't that what mother's are for? I had been giggling to myself for months over the possibilities. Poor Evan didn't even know it was a character meal.

I think this is the best buffet I've tried in DW....other than biergarten but that's a totally different type.

I don't remember what everything was...but my tongue's memory says it was good. I even tried the strawberry soup, which the title alone makes me cringe...it just doesn't sound right. but it was yummy! tasted like a strawberry smootie.

On the second plate at about 2' o'clock was some sort of Spanish chilled seafood salad. I have a kind of "love hate" relationship with seafood. In theory it sounds good but somewhere between my plate and my mouth something goes wrong.

but, since I'll try almost anything once, I decided to try some.

With my fork in hand, I speared what looked to be a gelatinous glob of grey snot, and with grave reservations, deposited said glob into my mouth...

:scared1: :rotfl2:

shocking yet completely hilarious!

this reminds me of the time i was in destin with some girlfriends. we went there in 2004 instead of going to our 10-year high school reunion (believe me...it was WAY more fun!) and my bestest friend since high school, melanie, is a non-seafood eater. i convinced her (after a couple of adult beverages) to try a fried crab claw. when she bit into it she was like, "oh, this is good," then when she pulled the claw out of her mouth and saw the cartilage/bone thing that the meat had come off of, she spit it all out and said, "i feel like i just pulled meat off a fingernail!!!!" :scared: :lmao: gross, but it didn't make me stop eating the crab claws. :rolleyes1

I love shrimp too, but it has to be deviened. I just can't get over the poop bag........hmm, I think I've had this conversation before somewhere on the dis.

you like fresh crap???? :lmao:

obviously someone needs to proof read before hitting submit!:rotfl2:

Let me try again...I like fresh craB.

I haven't pondered the benefits of fresh/old crap before.
