As a DVC member, French Quarter vs Riverside for cash stay???

I would just get transfer points from someone and book that way. I see no need to pay Disney cash for a room.

So for anyone who is still out there, would Gran Destino be nice? It is not much more money and the rooms look way nicer. I know it's not at all themed for kids but that's not a big deal. Just curious.

We stayed at GDT in April. It's a beautiful hotel with lots of amenities...the food court is huge, Three Bridges bar & grill was really delicious, and they have at least one sit down restaurant (we didn't eat there). The nicest part of it though is that the rooms all have inside hallways which I love, though ours was a hike to get to, and yes, the rooms are gorgeous.

All that said, I still prefer the small, compact feel of POFQ. They also have a decent food court and I also like that you can take the boat to DS from there.

POFQ has always been amongst my top 3 favorite resorts on property. It’s small and beautiful. During the day the theming is definitely “New Flor-eans” but, when the sun goes out and the old-timey street lamps go on it screams New Orleans.

The pool area is very nice with lots of areas that have foliage for natural shade and plenty of areas with sun for those who want to catch some rays. Since its such a small resort, the pool is rarely ever as crowded as other resorts. Easily one of the absolute best quick service locations on property.

The rooms are Akin to a studio size-wise. The condition of the rooms are something I cannot speak to as I haven’t had the need to go out of pocket for a Disney room since my last stay at POFQ in 2019.

Riverside (Dixie Landings!!!) is a beautiful resort but it is large and you can be in a room that is very far away from any resort amenities and the common areas are much more crowded that POFQ’s ever are.

We actually just checked out both of these resorts on our trip and while both are fantastic, there is just something extra charming about French Quarter!

Anyone stay in one with a 5th Sleeper looking too at DVC versus French Quarter

We just did last week stay in the 5th sleeper alligator bayou building at Riverside. It was great as we were the first bus stop coming and going to parks. The resort is bigger then French Quarter but it didn’t bother me since we had a car and was on first floor. Our building was next to the bus stop as well. I went with my two teens and we each had our own sleeping space. We didn’t use the pools. The only time we ate at their quick service was for breakfast. We got on the first bus that came and got off the last stop which was the main building. We we finished eating just went back out to catch the bus to the parks.

Looking at august availability - the cabins at fort wilderness are also discounted - add in the chance to make your own breakfast and you can make up the nightly difference. Plus they will have more room than the moderate.

I think I'm an oddity in that I don't like either one of these places. I thought Riverside was way too spread out and the theming wasn't my vibe...food was meh. French Quarter didn't have the right feng shui with maintenance buildings all around the pool the view was blocked and whenever I was eating at the food court the music drove me absolutely nuts. I just felt like I was in a circus

Whichever resort's theming appeals to you the most. Before we joined DVC, we stayed at both Riverside and French Quarter many times. DH preferred French Quarter, I preferred Riverside. Our preferences were based entirely on theme.

I agree with this and I love both resorts, but this morning we had a chance to change our December POFQ rez to GDT for pretty much the same $ since GDT had an AP discount for our dates--POFQ did not--and we decided to stay at POFQ.

French Quarter: beignets, shrimp and grits (quick service, but cooked in front of you, not premade), short walks, intimate, beautiful, lot of charm, beignets, shrimp and grits, beignets... see a trend?

Riverside: Yehaa Bob

For me Riverside was the longest walk to my room. And it was a preferred room! I know Kidani could be a longer walk, but at least it's under AC.

Both resorts are beautiful, but French Quarter is by far my favorite non-DVC resort.
