DH and I have a tradition of eating at Artist Point the final night of any trip. We first went there when they were still having a Pooh character breakfast (1999?) and have been going at least twice a year since then.
We started out at Territory lounge- DH got the Grand Margarita and I got the Pina Colada with raspberry (it used to be called the Raspberry Rapids). Our server was a bit flustered although it was not crowded. She took our order, walked away, returned to ask DH again what he ordered, walked away and then returned to ask me again what I ordered.
Our drinks were great and DH went to check us in at the restaurant. We were seated quickly and we got a new server who was very good. We have never had less than that here.
DH got the spinach salad with crisp bacon, radish, hard-cooked eggs, pickled onion and mustard vinaigrette. He finished it all except for the onion which he never eats willingly anywhere. He then had his classic, always gets it dish- The grilled buffalo sirloin steak and substituted the sweet potato-hazelnut gratin for mashed potatoes. It was fantastic according to him and completely finished except for the sweet onion jam served on the side. See the pattern? Why he just doesn't say skip all onions I don't know.
I skipped entrees and went all appetizers. I started with the smokey portobello soup with roasted shiitakes and chive oil (also topped with some croutons and bacon chunks, not bits). Heaven in a bowl! Wonderful with the sourdough bread served....
I then had the crisy venison spring rolls- 2 were served with some asian slaw. I gave DH one when I saw him lusting at my plate. He normally gets them and I was not thrilled with them; just me but too much venison and I prefer spring rolls with a lot of veggies in them. Live and learn.
Next on the table for me was the Duck Confit with Frisee-Anjou Pear Salad, Cherry Vinaigrette and Duck Prosciutto.
Highlight along with soup!!
I never cook duck and this is falling off the bone delicious!
Everything just comes together perfectly for me and it will be my entree forever more as long as it is on the menu! I used to get the cedar plank salmon but we now eat it at home at least weekly so why bother? I actually have salmon, sablefish and halibut flown overnight (flash frozen) in bulk from Alaska so we have a freezer full so I try to branch out when we go to Disney and try other things.
My last dish was the selection of artisan cheeses. Apparently I am not the cheese girl I thought I was and feel bad that I wasted the cheese so many of you would die for! Apparently a bit old chunk of a blue cheese is just too much for me- just a touch in a salad or a bit mixed with other cheeses is what I like. It was creamy and delicious but I just ate a small piece of the generous slice.
Another cheese called a Blue something was not a blue and was very good- ate all of that. The third and final cheese was a parmesan type that was also very good but more than I cared for.
A small cheese aside- we were staying at SSR and at Artist's Palette I had bought a cheese plate to take back to the room. It had grapes and a strawberry in there with what was listed as "cheddar, smoked gouda, monterey jack and pepper jack cheeses". This is my style and imagine my disappointment when it turned out to be smoked cheddar (loved it), plain gouda, pepper jack and SWISS cheese. I only like Swiss when melted on something like a reuben or a strata. Come on Disney- name the cheeses correctly!
We skipped dessert and will be back in December- myself for the duck and soup, DH for the buffalo!
I do want to mention our very nice server was the only one who pointed out that our DDE discount had the gratuity already added on the bill. She definitely got extra for that!
