Artist Point Review

Interesting review. I haven't been to Artist Point in 7 or so years. I recall it being too gamey for my liking. I recently saw a menu that seems to indicate they've cut back on the game stuff.

LOL -- and the reason we chose to eat there is because of their reputation for offering game. I had heard about the possibility of elk and ostrich on the menu, and was initially disappointed not to have more eclectic choices of meat. I got over that soon enough though when our food arrived.

so glad to read your review! My fiance and I are going to go to Artist Point while we are there on our honeymoon...I've got a surprise cake arranged to be delivered after the meal! (of course now I'm not so sure as those deserts sound fantastic!!!) I'm really looking forward to this meal!!!

Artist Point is my favorite restaurant at WDW - perhaps because of my fondness for WL, or because my wife and I honeymooned in Vancouver and AP reminds us of the food and atmosphere there.

If you enjoy wine, don't forget to take advantage of the great selection of NW wines offered there. I'm not that much of a wine drinker, but had a great Pinot Noir with my meal there in October. I can't wait to go back again!

Exceptional review of one of my favorites!

Last week at the California Grill, we'd packed clothes that would be considered business casual (that's what I wear to work anyway.) Just out of curiosity, I asked the CM who was taking names on the 2nd floor what they considered business casual.

She said slacks, neat jeans, and "walking shorts" were all fine. Collared shirts. So, again just being observant, I checked out the dining crowd. With one exception (a guy with a Florida Marlins t-shirt), everyone looked like they'd pass muster, and t-shirt guy was very neat himself. There were a LOT of kids, a lot more than I would've anticipated, but I didn't see any that were being rude or unruly. (I'm very tolerant of kids ... it's obnoxious adults that annoy me.) I'm with Unc - behavior catches my attention a lot quicker than dress. Someone can be impeccably dressed, and be a total jerk - kind of like lipstick on a pig.

To paraphrase a verse from Proverbs: "A person without discretion is like a gold ring in a swine's snout." ;)

Thanks for the wonderful review. We ate there last time and I had the cedar plank salmon. I really wanted to get the cobbler for dessert but was too full. Next time we go, I'm going to have to try it.

As far as the dress code, if WDW would only wise up and become as smart as DL high end restaurants. DL learned long ago..trying to impose a dress code just isn't worth it, as people come straight from the parks, go back to the parks after dinner, etc..just takes too much time to shower change, and then change again.

I agree with you 100%. While my wife, kids and myself will be wearing dress shorts and polo shirts in compliance with the business casual code at Artist Point this July, I feel adamantly that this is a VACATION and if people choose to dress up more than this or even to dress down *slightly* because they just came from the theme park then they should be allowed to do so. (However, I do believe a line should be drawn and that would be to prohibit tank tops, swimsuits, gym shorts, flip-flops and other beach attire).

Someone wearing a very nice and clean t-shirt and nice shorts or slacks shouldn't be told to "go home and change". Would I wear a t-shirt to a nice restaurant like AP? No. However, I certainly wouldn't be bothered enough if others did and I especially wouldn't waste time taking notice of it. My focus would be on my family and the food in front of me not what someone two tables over is wearing or not wearing.

Like someone else said though...if a person is obnoxious in volume or attitude then that is what would bother me! One of my pet peeves is people that speak too loudly in a restaurant. If I can hear someone's private conversation two tables away it is very annoying. :)

There are lots of other places in the world (not WDW) that folks can go and have dress codes enforced. Disney restaurants can suggest business casual all they want, but it's nigh impossible to always comply especially given the enormous size and amount of energy it takes to get around the resort. Even more so with kids.

My two cents...

Hmm.

I have been trying to decide where we should have dinner on the last night of our December trip. I have to call for ADRs Monday, so the clock is ticking! AP was already on my "one of these days" list, but I thought we might save it for a trip when we are staying at WL. On the other hand, WHY NOT go in December? Yes, the theme of the December trip is "quick and cheap", but how cheap did I really expect it to be? :rotfl:

Do they take the DDE card?

Great review! AP is also one of our favorites. We celebrated our 25th anniversary there and more recently had a wonderful meal including the entree you described, but with the berry cobbler for dessert. It WAS delicious and I usually go only for the chocolate desserts. ;)

We were the last diners out that evening, yet our server was very patient. She didn't rush us and even took our picture before we left. The atmosphere there is wonderful. :thumbsup2

Thanks sooooo much for the wonderfully detailed review. We're celebrating our 20th Anniversary :cool1: next year in WDW (with the kids!) and Artist Pointe is the restaurant we've chosen for a special celebration. We'll also be staying at WL.

As for the dress code, I believe these types of restaurants are few and far between at WDW and I personally think it should be respected. Something I'd like to share.... Before last trip, I purposely bought DD (then 12) and DS (then 9) appropriate outfits since they was lucky enough to be dining with mom and dad at a "very fancy" restaurant - California Grill. This made the entire experience extra special for them - one they will never forget! Upon exiting Calif. Grill, DD was "shocked" that adults were wearing flip flops in such a fancy place. ;)

It's the BEST salmon ever. Was it Copper River they offered you? If so, I'm really impressed!

Thank you for the very detailed review. I found it very informative. We were on the fence about eatting there during our honeymoon but I think this review has us convinced.

Thanks for the great review. I love Artist Point. I was there last year when they had the Copper River salmon and it was great. I've also eaten the normal salmon there and loved it.

I've also seen people there in shorts. Even if others don't dress up, we still enjoy looking nice. The only place I haven't seen people in shorts in V&A's.

Thanks for your great review. DH and I again dined at AP for our 19th anniversary in April. The food and service were great, as we remembered.

We also noticed many diners not dressed in the requested business casual. That didn't bother us, I just wonder why they request it and then do not enforce it.

The bigger annoyance was the amount of unruly kids in the restaurant. We were traveling without our kids (11 & 14) this trip since it was our anniversary. We have no problem with kids dining in upscale restaurants on the property - our problem is with parents who don't control them. There was a group of four kids, who were with a large party, who ran by our table no less than 5 times while we were dining. Running, screaming, shouting, bad table manners, etc. are much more bothersome to me than what someone is wearing. Their behavior really detracted from the experience of Artist's Point.

I understand that more people are trying table service locations because of Magic Your Way Dining. I just wish the parents would show their kids what proper behavior is before taking their kids to a restaurant of this type.

Love Artist Point -- will eat here again in December when we are staying at the Lodge. Probably twice....

As far as the dress code is concerned --

A little effort goes a long way. No excuses for going straight to or from the park. Hubby can leave the t-shirt in the suitcase and at least wear a polo shirt or short sleeve button down. Same for the kids. As for the ladies, a nice pair of capris and shirt -- it really isn't that difficult. Nothing wrong with shorts here -- just be neat about it.

As far as unruly kids go --

If they won't behave in the restaurant, take advantage of the kids club onsite. You will have a better time and so will they.

Thanks for the review. We have an ADR for AP in August. I am really looking forward to it now.
