This was my birthday dinner and we made it an event. We all dressed up (the boys even wore dress shirts and Mickey ties).
Our ADR for for 6:30pm, so we had drinks in the lounge before hand. Fortunately there were non-alcoholic, frozen drinks on the lounge menu for the boys.
After drinks we checked in at Artist Point. It was still about 20 minutes before our scheduled time but it was no problem, they were able to get us seated right away. Our server took our dinner drinks order and brought some lovely bread while we looked at the menus. The only debates were over appetizers.
Dustin had the Crispy Venison Spring rolls. They were surprisingly good. I say surprising because I dont normally care for venison (at least the wild shot venison we have in Maine). Dustin shared the one bite each but made pretty short work of these himself.
Carl had the Duck Confit. He likes duck quite well and enjoyed this (except the weird green stuff). I didnt try it as I dont like duck. Darla said the duck was very tasty.
Darla had the Smokey Portobello Mushroom soup. She liked it, but said it was earthier than she expected. The rest of us tried it and were less than dazzled but we arent mushroomy people. The only real complaint is that it isnt very pretty to look at.
I ordered the Artisan Cheeses, just to try something different. They were interesting, but I probably wouldnt do it again. And if we hadnt been using the dining plan I definitely would have skipped them.
Entrees were pretty simple.
Darla had the Cedar Planked Salmon and thought it was wonderful. Carl and I each tried and bite and it had really nice flavor. I have never had anything cedar planked before and was surprised that it actually contributed to the flavor.
Carl, Dustin and I all had Buffalo, done medium. It was the absolute best thing we ate all week. (Thats X3 btw). The sweet potato gratin was left on all of our plates though as none of us liked that. The Sweet onion relish was a nice accompaniment to the Buffalo.
Desserts were fun, though we were all pretty full. But you know you cant go to a fancy restaurant and at least sample the desserts.
Dustin had the Carmelized Peach cake. He didnt care for it much, but the rest of us loved it. It was very moist and tasty.
Carl tried the berry cobbler and didnt want to share. His was gone in short order.
Darla had the Hazelnut Chocolate Torte with lavender ice cream. While the torte was nice and she liked the ice cream, when Dustin said it tastes like shampoo Carl and I had to agree with him.
I had the Coffee Two ways. It was my favorite dessert that night, though I am not a coffee lover. My only complaint is that I wish the crème brulee had been warm.
Our server was a lovely young lady from China. She was pleasantly chatty with us and glad to make recommendations although everything was Amazing. That was (apparently) her favorite adjective because everything she told us about was amazing. But, she was sweet and gave us one of favorite tag lines from our trip.
We checked the check when it came to the table. If we were paying for this meal out of pocket it would have been $301.00. While Im not sure it was worth every penny it was voted as the best meal we had, in our post trip poll. We will definitely go back.
