Why Going back to MTV I used to love this stuff it over time it got more and more exploitive and even sometimes sadistic so I gave up watching so many shows.

I have been watching Jersey Shore Family Vacation but the way they seem to push cast members to drink very early and stay out unreasonably late is unnerving, like some people seem hired just to drink and make a scene so it makes me rethink watching. Seems like the drinking is jumping the shark.

Also liked a bunch of RHW but the same sort of thing happens, not sure who is driving it but it isn't subtle.

Where are other old fans and current fans on this?

I don’t really watch much ‘reality’ TV - I’ve never watched any of the Kardashian shows, Real Housewives, Big Bro, Jersey Shore, Great Race, those talent or singing or dancing shows, dating shows, etc. I did watch a few pieces of Sister Wives ( not sure I’ve ever seen a full episode) when it first came out - same with Little People and Deadliest Catch - I will watch some of the baking and Halloween competition shows and 7 Little Johnstons if I run across them while I’m channel surfing but that’s about it.

I used to like Real World and Road Rules, way back in the day. I think I was just the right age to appreciate it at the time. I checked out on Real World after Seattle and "the slap." After that, I haven't really gotten into much reality TV, except the Great British Baking Show, which isn't really the same thing at all. I think I watched the first season of Survivor, but after that it, and all reality TV, became more about becoming famous than being "real." Now it's just obnoxiousness for the sake of generating views, likes, etc.

It's cheap to make, though, and there's a never ending pipeline of idiots who want to be on the shows, so I don't see it ending.

Oh my goodness...I watch SO MUCH of it...All the Real Housewives and Below Decks, Survivor, Amazing Race, Masked Singer, All the Gordon Ramsey shows, all the baking championships on Food Network...in fact, I think I watch more reality TV than scripted TV at this point. Is it good tv?? Nope. Does it entertain me? Yep.

It seems like reality shows are huge on streaming services. I wonder if they are able to film for less outside of the traditional Hollywood producers and staff. I rarely watch it.

We also enjoy Survivor, or did, there was a very strange recent season which was tough to watch as the contestants did not seem selected for physical ability at all, season had an identity crisis.

Used to enjoy The Voice and all those other ones but I guess when we left cable and shifted to streaming our access was completely choked off, like there is only so much commitment such shows are gonna get from me.

Are they? Where? Not being able to get to them or find them was a huge reason for the drift away, even now I am all over the place with Jersey Shore Family vacation. Like some seasons are on this service, then some another then some are pay as you go - I find it incoherent. Like how much effort do these franchises think I'm gonna invest in watching Jersey Housewives and all, like I'll do some but there is a very low threshold to too much trouble. Why don't these shows keep a website with a menu of where to find, it is their brand?

Its really a move in how people consume content. People are watching streaming and on demand, instead of the traditional tv. Also the rise of live streaming on platforms like Twich, Instagram Live, Facebook Live, YouTube Live which cut out the middle man completely

Its not that people are not liking the content on tv, its just that how people choose to watch content is changing. .

I dunno, Bravo is currently on blast for how it handled some situations. It isn't tough to pick out what is happening.

I suspect that how people watch is changing what people watch, too.
Exactly. The days of one big TV in the main family room and everyone watching the same thing at the same time are gone.

Many people no longer even have a tv and watch either on their computer, tablet or phone.

Shows like Love Island and Love is Blind were on the front page of Netflix for months. I believe it also hosts the Great British Baking show and Below Deck in the US. These aren't the traditional big reality shows like you'd see on network TV, but I can see them taking that audience away from things like American Idol or Big Brother.

90 Day is on Hulu and Discovery+. On Discovery+ you can even watch the new episodes earlier than when they air on TV.

None of my friends that also watch 90 Day have cable. They all watch it on streaming. Sometimes the episodes even drop on YouTube so if I miss them when they air, I'll watch them on there.

They dont expect everyone to have every service. What most people do is watch whatever show they are interested just on one streaming platform.

For example I watch Greys Anatomy and Station 19. I watch them on Disney+ in my country as I am part of the Europe, the Middle East and Africa region. We have STAR which is basically your Hulu as part of our standard package.

Greys Anatomy is also shown on Irish regular TV but I don't watch it there. Disney+ is one week behind in the series.

It was ok early on before it became so scripted and staged.

This, exactly.

Some of it (the "vote each other off the island" or "marry a stranger" type) I never went for in the first place.

Some (like OutDaughtered) I watched in the beginning, but just had to stop because it's all about creating drama for the camera now.

I do sometimes watch straight competition shows - like the baking ones or The Voice.
