ARTICLE: Children who are spanked have lower IQs

I know it's not true in every case, but I would guess that parents who spank have less education than those that don't. I honestly don't know anyone here who spanks their children.

I don't agree. I think that it's simply a matter of parenting style. My kids were spanked, never in anger and not often or as a typical style of discipline. In extreme cases. I have three of the nicest kids you would care to meet. AND DH and I both have over and above a 4 yr degree. One of my best friends has a master's degree, she spanked her kids too. Another couple we know, he is a physician and she is a neuropsychologist and they also use spankings on occassion.

This would tend to be my experience as well.

I am guessing that most of these IQ tests aren't testing spelling or grammar.

"Genius"

:rotfl: Interestingly, my two oldest have had their IQs tested and actually, spelling nor grammar appear on the test!

I was spanked and I'm intellectually superior to everyone here, as are my children.

Actually, it's touche'.

My IQ test was in English...

and I honestly didn't know the origination of touche and spelled the word I was familiar with in French.

One thing is for certain. I can thank all the spelling czars on the DIS who correct my spelling faux pas in all languages so that I do not repeat those mistakes.

LOL. I guess I shouldn't have a Ph.D. in Accounting since I was spanked as a child.

I always thought I was gifted until took the IQ test, when I discovered I wasn't.:lmao:

Seriously, though, about the article...it's possible that inately gifted children were spanked as children and were psychologically affected by the spankings as to change their ability to focus on their intellectual ability to ''think outside the box". It may have affected their confidence and consequently affected their ability to learn at their God-given greater pace. I don't know. What I do believe if that if what I said is true, it can be reversed and their naturally high intellectual abilities can flourish. I'm not a psychologist, so I'm just making a guess.

Don't believe it for a minute.
