We just returned from the BC a couple of weeks ago. I heard so much about Art on the boards that when I finally saw him I ran up to him and had to say hi. It seemed like we were old friends. I told him if he realized how famous he was...and of course he is such a gentle soul all he could do was smile. He is one of the sweetest person at the BC. Here are some pictures:

We were at BC this August for DD and DS's bday trip. DD looked for Art each and everyday that we entered the Lobby. When we finally did meet, I immediately knew why he is so popular. He has to be one of the sweetest men I have ever met in my life. He talked to my children like they were the only ones in the world when he spoke with them. He treated DS so wonderfully , so many people tend to talk down to Alex because he is in a wheelchair. I do not think it is something intentional they just do. Not Art ... he treated him just like he did everyone else. The way he got down on Alex's level to talk to him made him feel so important I know. DS just started pin trading this trip and the pins he traded with Art he would not trade off to anyone else. They were on a different part of his lanyard to be sure not to get them mixed up.

We continued to see Art throughout our trip. Kind of a funny pin trading story. DS kept trading his pins for the same pin. It was a stitch head, so by the time we saw Art again he had close to 20 of them. I had tried to gently urge him to trade for something else and not all of the same thing. It did not work so I had given up and just let him do whatever. Special pins I immediately put up but the rest I just went with the flow. I am still not sure how Art did it but he had one conversation with Alex. Telling him about hidden mickey pins and other things. From there on out Alex was trading the stitch heads left and right for other pins he liked. I was so trilled! Alex thinks the world of Art to say the very least. To show how much so this is my favorite picture my son has ever taken. I plan on having it framed and put on our mantle. The reason it is my favorite is because my son hates to take pictures and this is the only picture he has ever asked me to take.

My husband and I already cannot imagine a trip without seeing Art. We are looking to adopt very soon. One of the first things DH said to me is you know next time we go hopefully we will have more little people to meet Art. We are about to buy DVC and are buying at BC because it was a magical experience. Part of that magic is what Art brings. He is without a doubt in our hearts forever. A special thank you to him for helping to make our childrens surprise bday trip one of the best experiences of their lives.

THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for sharing this - it was so touching it brought tears to my eyes. He will be extremely touched by this. He is the most humble man who if you ask him he'll say I'm just trying to make people happy, smile and enjoy their trip! He is very magical to me and I'm glad he helped make your children's bday trip a great experience. Those are GREAT PICS THANKS!!!!

He has to be the sweetest guy! I am glad that our story brought some joy to him because he has definately touched our lives. DD thought it was very neat that Art now knew how much he means to us.

He has some sort of cold and fever - as of last night the fever had come down - he was out of work for a few days, he called the doctor and is on antibiotics. I will tell him everyone was concerned for him.

He and his wife will be with me for the weekend celebrating my bday and a extra anniversary celebration for them from me. So he told me he had to get better so we can have fun this weekend. I'm looking forward to spending time with them and I will post pictures when I get back - its funny when he is out of uniform people don't realize its him until they hear his voice.

You know I second this completely! I think that would be a great place to put a photographer! I wonder if there is anything that we could push along to make sure Disney knows what a jewel they have in Art. I certainly hope that they treat him like he is. Which reminds me that I need to write a letter to Disney because I have not done one for this trip.

That is just so cool that he remembers us! I cannot tell you how excited DS will be when he finds out. Tell him he DEFINATELY needs to take care of himself! Hoping he gets to feeling better very very soon!

First & foremost, my wife (WeirdTigger27) & I hope that Art gets feeling better VERY fast! Or, as my wife puts it to friends who need them, she's sending Healing Hugs

Next, if Art does feel better & you folks get out, take him over to Beaches & Cream (sneak him in the back way if needed! ) and get him a bowl of their Chicken Noodle Soup. Or, if he's still under the weather, BRING him a bowl of their chicken noodle soup (Heck, if you tell them it's for Art, they'll probably load you up with the whole pot's worth!). I can honestly say that their soup can help or cure virtually anything (long story that I've posted in other threads, but, take my word on it!)

Finally, if you would, please tell him (though we would NOT be upset if he didn't remember us!) that his friends from October 2006 who drove him, Jaime, & Hurley NUTS to find out who the dog from the pin was, that turned out to be the ARTful Dodger (honest!!!!), wish him VERY well, belated congratulations on his anniversary, & that we cannot wait to see him during our trip in the first week of October (9/29-10/8, to be precise). To us, he was, is, and always shall be, the Grand Admiral of the Beach Club!
