so I’m planning a short trip for the end of May and was considering booking at AoA since it’s discounted right now and therefore not that much more expensive then pop or all stars... and I thought that DD6 would enjoy the theming of the little mermaid room. Then I realized that I could stay at swan or dolphin for a little more and get my Marriott points plus fast passes 60 days out. I’m trying to decide if AoA is worth it or if I should go with Swan (or dolphin). Any thoughts? For the record I’m a Marriott platinum member - so I’ll probaby get a free upgrade, etc staying there. But I clearly stay at enough Marriott brand hotels while I rarely get to see Disney resorts... I also plan on one resort day. And I have a son who will be 18 months for the trip. So a good splash area for him is important for the resort day. Any thoughts, suggestions? Anyone who’s stayed at both that can provide a good comparison?

You're 18 month old will love AoA for sure, but the Swan is a much much nicer hotel. Im Marriott Platinum as well and got an amazing upgrade last September to a junior suite at the Swan. Amazing room. There's a kids pool at the Swan/Dolphin pool but no splash pad. The food options are many many times better at the Swan and Dolphin. But of course AoA wins hand down for theming. The Swan also has a much better location with walkability to Epcot and HS.

Based on your kids ages, I would recommend AOA. I have stayed at both, and while The Dolphin was nice, I just didn’t get the Disney feeling you get staying at a Disney resort.

AoA is the most uncomfortable, loudest resort I have ever stayed in. The LM rooms are really small and far away from everything. The Swan is so far-and-away superior. There is just no comparison. I would stay at the Swan, no question.

Your DD6 would love the room - so well themed, as is the whole resort - Cars area is actually the most well done I think. We could see some HS fireworks from outside our room(on higher floor). Definitely great with the pools for a resort day, and DD could do an animation class. Lots of pool side games/activities and playground. You could also walk over the bridge to check out the fun decor at Pop. LM rooms are at the back, so little more walking to food court and buses, but a scenic walk - at end of night can seem longer, don't know if you are doing stroller for 6 yr old when needed, which is helpful for those times. While Marriot/Swan will have many nice amenities, as you said you are at Disney, and for kids at their age the theming is part of the experience, so it would be my pick. Also just an FYI in case it matters for you - Swan does not offer ME or dining plan.

The Swan or Dolphin is walking distance to 2 parks and near so many other restaurants and activities, I would pick those resorts hands down just for this fact.

Swan/Dolphin
Pros: walking distance (or boating distance) to two parks is the biggest selling point. This makes it VERY easy to pack up kids for a break back to the hotel. Pools are lovely, and DD would probably love the waterslide. Adults will appreciate the hot tubs. The resort fee gives you water bottles (great to take to parks and avoid the overpriced bottled water there), rides on the swan boats, and a s'mores kit for marshmallows roasting each evening. We were upgraded, and there was so much room to spread out. Additionally, our platinum status got us breakfast for two each morning, which meant we got a free character breakfast in Garden Grove (okay, the cold breakfast was free, but we upgraded the kids to hot so they could have Micky Waffles). Beds in the Dolphin are double beds (but can accommodate a rollaway) and queen beds in the Swan. Rooms open to interior hallways, and it's easy to get to the lobby and onto a bus and stay dry, even in a downpour.

Cons: it's a regular hotel, not that different from other Stariott properties in terms of theming. Pool area does not have lifeguards, nor does it have a real splash pad (though there is this little seal statue that squirts water). No planned activities that scream "Disney."

AoA
Pros: amazing theming! Kids will get a kick out of walking around the resort and seeing their favorite characters. There are several themed playgrounds, which would be nice for both children. Pool has lifeguards and a splash pad for your youngest. There are CM-lead activities daily to liven up a resort day, and a Disney movie at night.

Cons: requires a bus (or your own car) to get to the parks, which can mean a cumbersome trek back for afternoon naps. Little Mermaid rooms are kind of far from the central area, so you'll have even more walking in addition to the bus ride. Rooms are fairly small and basic; no upgrade like you'll probably get at the Swolphin. The Big Blue Pool has the cool underwater music feature, but at the end of the day, it's just a basic pool with no added amenities like slides. Beds are doubles, not queens, and you have motel-like exterior doors, and are exposed to the elements when walking to the bus stop.

To be honest, I would probably go with AoA for your resort day. I think it will be easier to keep both of your kids entertained and safe. But I would also consider a split stay because you can walk out of a park and be back in your Swolphin room before you'd probably get on a bus back to AoA.

Well the Swan is by far the nicer hotel but for kids AoA. for our next trip in 2021 I listened to the girls they want the deluxe meal plan and I thought the Poly. But this is a Feb 2021 trip (birthday trip for the younger one) and she came to me after watching YouTube and as its her birthday trip she wants AoA. For the pool.

So, have you started at Pop? That one drove me insane. Haha.

I haven't stayed at the Swan. AoA is absolutely wonderful for kids though. Great theming. Wonderful pools.

Because it is her birthday trip she is taking over everything. She has been watching tons of youtube videos, vetoing restaurants making fast plans etc.

We have stayed at both. The pool at the Swan/Dolphin is amazing, probably better than AoA (in my opinion). S/D have a more adult feel.

But you absolutely can not beat the theming at AoA. If you want to be immersed in Disney the whole time this is where you want to go that is for sure.

The food court at AoA is probably better for smaller kids.

Easy choice for us, especially with kids. As others have pointed out, AoA is themed so well. Kids LOVE it.

Yes, Swan is "nicer," so if you are looking for comfort or luxury, you bet. But Swan and Dolphin strike us as nearly devoid of any Disney flavor. It's a very nice hotel. But I doubt kids' eyes light up nearly as much at an opulent lobby as they do seeing Ariel and Sebastian.

As for eating choices, as someone else pointed out, the food court at AoA is very loud (about as loud as Pop). But in our experience kids love the theming there too, as opposed to the subdued dining in Swan.

Swan has better transportation to Epcot and DHS. And the buses aren't nearly as crowded as they are at AoA.

You would be insane not to choose Swan.

These. AoA is loud and HUGE and the buses take forever. The Swan and Dolphin are absolutely my favorite resorts on property.

Others will tell you it's no big deal but Wife (60) and I (59) stayed AoA LM in September. The room was fine and we got it for a good price and the overall themeing of the resort is very nice, but.......

You are a long walk from everything you need at AoA when staying in the LM section. If walking is your thing or you are okay with it then go for AoA. If not go Swan/Dolphin because nothing was easy at AoA. From the food court to the busses to the main pool everything was a hike. There is a quiet pool near LM section but we really wanted to experience the big pool.

We have never stayed at the Swan/Dolphin so for us the decision would be simple if those were our two choices. Whatever you decide, have fun and enjoy your trip!

I would go with the Swan hands down.

My DH is lifetime platinum premier, and at the Dolphin last fall we got upgraded to a suite, plus free breakfast daily.

The location is the best at Disney IMHO. The beds are comfortable, they have good room service as well!

My kids loved our trips at the Swan and Dolphin when they were young too. I’m paying, so I choose where we stay!
