Arriving on columbus day???? Help

We are going to america on the 12th of october and will be arriving in the afternoon. Now I have read that its columbus day on that day. Can anyone tell me if the stores and shops will be open on that day???

Except for Banks and Schools. It is actually usually a crowded shopping day wherever you are.

Post Office will be closed too.
Stores have lots of good sales that day. If you want to shop, it will be a great day for you to arrive.

Not that you'll need these, but it is a Federal holiday - so federal offices are closed too.

Columbus day is a minor holiday so the only things that shutdown are federal offices and post office along with financial institutions that follow the federal schedule. Pretty much everything else is open. Of all of the federal vacation days it is probably the least observed outside of the government.

I think Lincoln's birthday is even less observed. But Columbus Day, in this politically correct era, isn't fashionable for some.

Except for non-essential government offices (some would say they are all non-essential) .....everything is open if there is a dollar to be made.

TVGuy, do I detect a minor note of sarcasm? Ha! You are too funny, but you are right. If someone can make money, the store will be open. If for any reason you needed cash and could use an ATM, those are always open here (for a charge, of course!).
